1 System for breaking in creases of a box blank US127260 1993-09-24 US5382217A 1995-01-17 Hermann Namowitz
A box tube blank having first, second, third, and fourth panels joined together at first, second, third, and forth creases is broken in starting with the blank oriented in a starting plane with the first and third creases superposed and the second and fourth creases outermost. First the second and fourth creases are pressed toward each other parallel to the starting plane to spread the first and third creases away from each other until the second and fourth creases are juxtaposed and the first and third creases lie outermost and the blank lies generally perpendicular to the starting plane. Then the tube blank passes between an upstream pair of parallel rollers extending perpendicular to the starting plane to compress it parallel to the starting plane. Thereafter the first and third creases are pressed toward each other perpendicular to the starting plane to spread the second and fourth creases away from each other until the first and third creases are juxtaposed and the second and fourth creases lie outermost and the blank lies generally parallel to the starting plane. The tube blank then passes between a downstream pair of parallel rollers extending parallel to the starting plane to compress it perpendicular to the starting plane.
2 Method of and a device for raising flattened parallelepipedic blanks US397245 1989-08-23 US5033975A 1991-07-23 Paul Traegaardh
A method and device are disclosed for raising rimpled and flattened parallelepipedic blanks to form rectangular parallelepipeds. A supply of flattened parallelepipedic blanks are rolled out in a first rolling direction through a pair of discharging rollers. Pressure is imparted on the flattened parallelepipedic blanks in a direction opposite to the first rolling direction by means of a pusher for opening the blank to nearly 180.degree. in a direction perpendicular to the rolling direction. The pusher is thereafter retracted in the first rolling direction to raise the blank to form a rectangular parallelepiped with a substantially square-shaped cross section. The formed blanks are thereafter unloaded from the device.
3 Machine for erecting and counterfolding collapsed boxes US134987 1980-03-28 US4331436A 1982-05-25 Valentin Kuttenbaum; Ernst Henle
A device for erecting and countercollapsing boxes from preformed blanks comprises a carrier arm pivotally attached to a chain drive and guided by a generally oval track to engage at a feed station the back edge of a blank for pushing the same through a pair of parallel guide slots along a path to an erecting station defined by rotary carrier synchronized with the chain drive for revolving a stopper to have, upon the emergence of the blank from the guide slots, a distance from the slots' exit substantially equal to the width of the blank and an orientation parallel to front and back edges of the blank. The stopper catches at the slots' exit the front blank edge and continues to revolve with tangential speed less than the speed of the arm, whereby relative motion of the stopper and the arm gives rise to a compressive force which opens and countercollapses a box from the blank. A convex arresting surface on the rotary carrier engages a side of the box only upon the determination of a collapsing phase to limit lateral motion of the box during a pushing thereof by the arm into removal slots. The stopper includes a radial surface inclinable toward the exit of the feed slots for facilitating a catching of the front blank edge and toward the removal slots, upon further rotation of the rotary carrier, for facilitating the sliding of the countercollapsed box from the erecting station.

A simple and space-saving arrangement of this invention comprises gripping elements (10) placed along a conveyer (5) which in a continuous movement take up a blank (1) from the conveyer and raise the same to a square cross-section and pass it on in raised position.
9 Device for the pre-folding of the closure of a folding box US675362 1976-04-09 US4044656A 1977-08-30 Wilhelm Vetten
The invention relates to a process and apparatus for pre-folding and unfolding of a closure on a folding box of rectangular cross-section, which closure is formed of the creased unslotted end portion of the walls of the box of which two opposite closure panels are each provided with a pair of creases running from the corners and converging toward the center of the margin so as to form triangular pockets upon folding. The device comprises two pairs of folding tools at 90.degree. to one another and means for displacing them. One of the pairs corresponding to the creased panels each is bifurcated with a folding tine which engages its panel at substantially one location during folding while the other tine in inactive and an unfolding tine which engages the opposite face of the same panel during unfolding while the folding tine is inactive. A plunger is moved into the box prior to folding to serve as a backing means and, by unfolding as described, the panels are restored to a position where they are at most only minimally contacted by the plunger during withdrawal from the box. Thus, if the end portion of the box carries an adhesive material for later closure, the adhesive will not be removed by sliding of the plunger therealong.

12 Method and apparatus for shaping a rectangular carton blank US377047 1982-05-11 US4468214A 1984-08-28 Bruno Grundler
In folding boxes forming a conveyor chain, rectangular, tubular carton blanks are introduced stepwise into two juxtaposed mirror-image designed folding stations. In the folding stations, the carton blanks are defomed by means of fingers and clamps so that their base surface is pulled into a parallelogram. The two edges forming the longer diagonal are pressed by means of stamping dies and by means of a counterholder and a stamping plate, respectively. After pressing, the carton blanks are pulled back into the folding boxes and are returned to their rectangular shape.
13 Carton erecting apparatus US834166 1977-09-19 US4178839A 1979-12-18 Charles C. Hughes
Method and apparatus for erecting cartons wherein a flat folded carton blank is conveyed to the apparatus where it is momentarily stopped. Suction cups pull the underside of the blank downwardly against a breaker bar to bow the underside downwardly pulling the leading and trailing ends of the blank toward each other and thus bowing the upper carton side upwardly. With the carton thus partially opened, an overhead opening element rotates into engagement with a trailing side panel of the carton to swing it through an arc of about 90.degree. until it is substantially vertical. An overbreak element thereafter engages the now vertical trailing side panel and swings it through another 90.degree. to overbreak the carton. In this condition, the carton is conveyed out of the erecting apparatus and into transport lugs of the transport conveyor of a cartoner.
14 Carton bottom breaker US731175 1977-05-05 US4135439A 1979-01-23 Howard E. Murrah
