A device for making cuts in the direction of the advance of pieces of thin material, for example in slips of paper along the path on which they are fed, includes a cutter carrying drum (1) and a cutting bed drum (2) rotating in opposite directions to each other. The drum (1) carries at least one peripheral cutter (3, 3', 3") whose cutting edge (103) is orientated in the direction of advance of the pieces of material and is curved coaxially with the drum (1), projecting radially beyond it. The cutter (3, 3', 3") is fixed on the cutter carrying drum (1) by a removable (5, 7) base (4, 4', 4") which has an intrinsic elasticity provided by slits such that it provides a certain spring support of the cutter (3, 3', 3") alternatively and in combination in the radial direction and in the direction of oscillation about an axis transverse to the cutting edge (103) of the cutter (3, 3', 3"), in particular substantially parallel to the axis of the drum (1).

7 Cutting device for a corrugated box machine US925062 1986-10-30 US4781668A 1988-11-01 Donald E. Mowry
A cutting device for a cutting machine for use in the corrugated box industry is disclosed. Cooperating rollers or heads are positioned on opposed rotatable shafts. The heads are disposed for cutting or scoring material passed through the heads. A hub assembly is connected to each of the heads for releasably securing the heads to the shaft. The hub assembly is resiliently biased in a manner to secure the rollers on the shaft. A rotatable cam is positioned adjacent the hub assembly. The rotatable cam is rotatable to engage and move the hub assembly in a manner whereby the hub assembly disengages from the shaft and allows the heads to be moved along the shaft to a new position.
8 Cutting carton blanks and cutters therefor US944442 1986-12-19 US4725261A 1988-02-16 Michael W. Millard; Henry L. Dunn, Jr.
Apparatus and method for cutting an end portion of a carton blank, e.g. to form a stitch flap, employs a rotatably driven male cutting head cooperating with a rotatably driven female cutting head. The female cutting head has a peripheral cutting groove therein and an anvil surface adjacent one side of the groove. The male cutting head has a two edged slot cutting blade of predetermined arcuate length which enters the groove each revolution, and a knife which extends transversely away from the blade and engages the anvil surface each revolution. The blade has a scallop-like cut-out in the side adjacent the anvil surface. The cut-out modifies the blade to a single edged cutting blade for a small part of its length. Scrap portions produced from the carton blank by a slotting cut of the blade and a transverse cut of the knife are integrally connected together by a bridging piece enabled by this cut-out. This integral piece of scrap is conveyed by the groove to a stripping blade and then drops onto a conveyor, so eliminating any uncontrolled portion of scrap. The groove can have radial side channels for more positively gripping strips of scrap engaged therein.
9 Method and apparatus for scoring plastic sheet material US366058 1982-04-06 US4415515A 1983-11-15 Benjamin Rosenberg
Plastic sheet material used for forming box blanks are provided with soft, bendable score lines by applying frictional heat through rapid vibration. The sheet material is clamped under high pressure between a resilient make-ready and a scoring tool, and is subjected to the vibratory action which generates frictional heat sufficient to melt the plastic material at the engaged interface, thereby forming a score line along which the sheet material may be bent to form an assembled box. A completed box blank may be formed in a single operational step, by cutting the box, impressing the score lines, and impressing embossments, if required, simultaneously in a single operational cycle of seconds duration.

11 Method and a machine for the manufacture of rigid packets with hinged lid US131172 1998-08-07 US6112505A 2000-09-05 Alessandro Minarelli; Maurizio Righi
Rigid packets of the type with a hinged lid are fashioned from diecut blanks presenting a central longitudinal portion flanked by two lateral portions, each consisting in a series of longitudinally disposed flaps. The method of manufacture involves directing the blanks singly and in succession between a pair of contrarotating rollers with dies shaped and positioned to engage each lateral portion; the dies are designed to modify a pair of adjoining flaps on each side, which ultimately will be bent through a right angle to form an internal layer of the relative flank face of the packet, by producing at least one bend in one flap at an end adjacent to the other flap, and forming a projection on the longer flap which in the finished packet will be breasted permanently in contact with an inner reinforcing frame.

16 Precrush tool for corrugated board slotter head US462175 1990-01-08 US5002524A 1991-03-26 George R. Mills
A precrush tool immediately precedes a slotting blade in a slotting tool assembly. The slotting blade is mounted in the same way as a conventional slotting blade with the exception that the top is profiled to give gradual crushing during rotation. The tool's area gets successively larger to the point that the top land equals the width of the slotter blade and its O.D. when mounted is effectively the pitch circle of the tool assembly. This design allows for the air to be removed from the board gradually and produces a sharp clean cut by the slotter.

19 Process and apparatus for producing blanks for packs US816018 1986-01-03 US4715847A 1987-12-29 Heinz Focke; Jurgen Focke
Blanks (10) for producing folding boxes, etc., are severed from an advancing sheet (11), conveyed continuously, at a constant speed by first drawing rollers specifically by partial severing cuts (cutting lines 33, 34) supplementing one another and made in successive work cycles. The blanks (10) are severed from the sheet (11), with the exception of residual connections (35), and are separated completely from the sheet (11) by tearing as a result of a higher speed of additional drawing roller located downstream of the first rollers.

A process and apparatus for cutting, creasing and/or embossing sheets of cardboard, paper of similar material is disclosed. The apparatus includes a tool plate or die having steps therein in the form of parting steps and ribs and/or grooves to form creases. A resilient elastic member is employed to press the cardboard web down against the various steps in the tool plate. The size and configuration of the steps and the tool plate causes severing or cutting of the cardboard or creasing or embossing. Apparatus for use with rotational as well as planar or reciprocating blanking machines and a variety of different tool plate constructions are disclosed. The process includes resilient urging of the sheet against the die piece with the elastic member causing deformation of the sheet to conform to the tool plate.
