The invention concerns a method for stripping and sanitizing a container (14) inner surface presenting a layer of organic and/or mineral deposit, in particular tannin resulting from winemaking in cask. The invention is characterised in that it consists in applying on the surface to be treated a pulsed radiation (4) produced by an intense optical source (1), each pulse being of sufficiently short duration having sufficiently high treating energy density per unit area to bring about sublimation of said surface deposit, the resulting exposed container surface being sanitized by the heat released by the radiation. The invention also concerns a device for implementing said method.

A koozie and method of making a same. A suitable log is first selected. The size of the log can vary depending upon the size of the desired koozie. The log is cut into at least one segment. The segments are secured to a table. Next, the segments are hollowed leaving a bottom plane and a stem extending from the bottom plane. Thereafter the stem is removed. This provides a koozie made from a log.

32 TRANSPORTABLE APPARATUS FOR RE-CONDITIONING WINE BARRELS USING A TURNSTILE US13640631 2011-04-13 US20130213524A1 2013-08-22 Breck Waterman
An apparatus for reconditioning barrels, said apparatus including a means to lockingly engage a barrel in a first position, a moving means to move the locked barrel into a second position, a scanner to scan the internal surface of the locked barrel when in the second position and collect scanned data, the moving means then moving the locked barrel to a third position and a means to cut a selected depth of the internal surface of the locked barrel when in the third position according to the collected data. The moving means is a turnstile with three section enabling three barrels to be in the apparatus at any one time, so that whilst one barrel is being scanned, one is being cut and a third is being unloaded/loaded into the apparatus.
33 Wood barrel, production method thereof and machine for implementing same US12679629 2008-09-25 US08397928B2 2013-03-19 Vincent Lefort; Christelle Ganne-Chedeville
A barrel made of wood, in particular oak wood, for containing a liquid, such as wine, the barrel comprising a hollow body closed by two barrel heads, each barrel head comprising an assembly of substantially rectangular wooden battens assembled parallel to one another via facing lateral faces, the barrel being characterized in that the adjacent lateral faces (101, 201) of two assembled-together battens (100, 200) are in intimate leaktight contact, with fibers of the wood of each of said battens being tangled together and held in a matrix of fused intercellular materials.
34 APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR SHAVING THE INSIDE OF BARRELS US12830501 2010-07-06 US20100319811A1 2010-12-23 BRECK WATERMAN
An apparatus and method for shaving the inside of barrels. The invention relates to reconditioning used wine barrels by shaving the inside surface to a predetermined depth, ready for re-crozering, toasting, and re-use. Conventional shaving methods typically involve routing the internal surface by hand, but this technique is problematic in that it is a very slow process, the quality of the wood is often adversely affected, and there is no way of ensuring that the surface will be shaved to the same depth across the entire surface. The resultant internal dimensions of the barrel are not reflective, relatively, of the original barrel surface. The invention includes a scanning device to scan the internal dimensions of the barrel, and a cutting device to shave the internal surface to a predetermined depth relative to the scanned internal dimensions and where the scanning device and the cutting device may be supported by different robotic arms.
35 Methods for reconditioning barrels US11589100 2006-10-30 US07823261B2 2010-11-02 Eugene Joseph Rogers
The inventive subject matter relates to methods for reconditioning a barrel previously used for containing a substance, comprising the steps of determining cutting parameters specific to the barrel material to provide controlled cutting of the barrel material; removing a desired depth of the barrel material using an automated high pressure water cutting device; testing for a remnant of the substance using a sensor device; optionally spraying with a dissolving agent; and repeating the steps of removing and testing upon detecting the presence of the substance in or on the barrel. Additionally, the inventive methods comprise applying a liquid to the wood of the reconditioned barrel to control evaporation of the barrel contents.

The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for shaving the inside of barrels. In particular, the present invention relates to reconditioning used wine barrels by shaving the inside surface to a predetermined depth, ready for re-crozering, toasting, and re-use. Conventional shaving methods typically involve routing the internal surface by hand, but this technique is problematic in that it is a very slow process, the quality of the wood is often adversely affected, and there is no way of ensuring that the surface will be shaved to the same depth across the entire surface. Therefore, the resultant internal dimensions of the barrel are not reflective, relatively, of the original barrel surface. The apparatus of the present invention includes a scanning device adapted to scan the internal dimensions of the barrel, and a cutting device adapted to shave the internal surface to a predetermined depth relative to the scanned internal dimensions.
