48 Improvements in or relating to the reduction of vibration from mechanisms EP78300315.5 1978-08-22 EP0001014A1 1979-03-07 Love, James Prince

The invention is concerned with the reduction of the vibration transmitted from a mechanism having at least one element rotating at a fundamental frequency and one or more cyclically displaceable further elements connected to said rotating element, and in which the displacements of said further elements produce an aggregate cyclic linear exciting force of fundamental frequency and harmonics thereof acting on the same line. To prevent transmission of vibrations produced by said exciting force from the mechanism to its support means, the mechanism is constrained to prevent all degrees of freedom of movement relative to the support means except for movement under the influence of said linear exciting force which is thereby isolated from the support means. The mechanism also has balancing means integral with or attached to said rotating element for balancing any rotating force produced at said fundamental frequency. Low rate resilient suspension means and damping means may also be connected between the mechanism and the support means.

An oil tank (431) for storing oil for lubricating a saw chain (21) and a fuel tank (443) for storing fuel for an engine (5) are integrally formed with a top handle (41) provided on an upper side of a body (3). The body (3) and the top handle (41) are connected by a connecting spring such that vibration transmission from the body (3) to the top handle (41) is restrained. In other words, since the heavy oil tank (431) and the weighty fuel tank (443) are integrally formed with the top handle (41) to trim the weight of the body (3) that generates vibration, vibration transmitted to the top handle (41) is decreased to improve the vibration insulation of a chain saw (1).

57 Vibration free handle EP89109424.5 1989-05-24 EP0343656A2 1989-11-29 Yamaguchi, Yasuharu Kyowa Metal Works, Co., Ltd.

The vibration free handle comprises a mounting member (83) connected to a vibration source (84) via an extension (87), a first rod (81) supported by the mounting member (83), a second rod (82) connected to the first rod (81) at one end thereof with a predetermined inclination (α), a mass body (86) mounted on the other end of the second rod (82), and an elastic member (85) provided between the vibration source (84) and partially fitted in the mounting meber (83) for covering the first and second rods (81, 82). The elastic member (85) possesses spring constants in three directions (x, y, z), one direction (z) being defined by the direction the vibration source vibrates (z-direction) and other two directions being perpendicular to z-direction in a mutual plane perpendicular to z-direction. When the second rod (82), which serves as a grip of the handle, extends perpendicularly to z-direction and the source starts vibrating, there appear "vibration knots" in the second rod (82), at which the vibration ampltude is substantially zero, in three directions (x, y, z). The "vibration knots" reduces the vibration from the vibration source. The amount of vibration reduction in three directions are respectively adjustable by changing the inclination (α).
