A splitting axe comprises a head having an eye, and a handle having a portion received within the eye. The head has an anterior portion extending from one end of the eye and terminating in a cutting edge and a posterior portion extending from the opposite end of the eye to the end of the edge remote from the cutting edge. The mass of the head possesses a weight distribution providing an unbalanced disposition of the head on the handle with the center of gravity of the head being located within the eye and on an axis passing beyond the upper and lower edges of the eye which axis is parallel to, and forwardly of, the longitudinal axis of the eye. A retaining pin promotes securement of the handle within the eye and is located on the side of the longitudinal axis remote from the center of gravity.

A garden cutting tool is provided that cuts tree branches, bushes, plants, weeds and the like and consists of a blade, a neck having an arm affixed to the bottom of the blade, a sleeve having a central aperture, extending from the arm and a pair of rods diametrically extending vertically from the bottom of the sleeve, a handle having an extension that mates within the central aperture of the sleeve, the handle having a pair of apertures diametrically extending vertically at the base of the extension, whereby the rods go into the apertures and are bent at the bottom of the handle to keep the handle in a secure and stable position and a fastener placed horizontally through the sleeve of the neck and the extension of the handle to keep the handle in a secure and stable position.

A maul head for a wood splitting maul includes a raised ear disposed centrally on each side face of the head. The ears are of a substantially smaller width than the side faces of the maul head and are configured to provide a wedge shaped entry portion which is spaced from the cutting edge of the side faces. The distance between the outer faces of the ears progressively increases from the leading edge to the trailing edge of the ears. The ears provide an increased splitting action after the initial penetration of the cutting edge.

A combination tool is disclosed particularly suitable for emergency rescue applications, generally composed of two pivotally connected elongate handle members having an axe head and pick head mounted respectively thereon. The handle members may be locked together to be used as a composite structure, scissored apart to perform a variety of wire cutting and clamping functions, or alternatively separated from one another to be used independently. A plurality of head attachments are additionally disclosed which may be selectively mounted onto the axe head member to adapt the tool for use as a spade, hoe, hewing adz, basher, metal cutter, strap wrench, pipe wrench, and various other tools. The head attachments are mounted to the axe head member by a rotatable locking member which provides a quick connect and disconnect means for securing the attachments to the device. A holster, shoulder strap, and shoulder harness are utilized to carry the combination tool and head attachments upon a user. These are also adapted to serve as a boatswain's chair.

An axe comprising a blade formed of flat plate stock of generally uniform thickness, and a U-shaped handle attaching strap formed of flat plate stock of generally uniform thickness, the strap is fixedly mounted on a handle end portion with the bight portion and leg portions thereof substantially circumferentially surrounding the handle end portion and free end portions thereof extending therefrom in generally parallel relation beyond a leading edge of the handle end portion. The blade is rigidly mounted with its attaching portion disposed between the free end portions of the attaching strap and a trailing edge thereof facing the leading edge of the handle portion. The cutting edge of the blade is of uniform wedge-shaped cross-sectional configuration throughout its extent, the wedge shape being formed by generally straight bevel surfaces.

There is disclosed a folding hand tool comprising a channel member having a head member rotatably attached to one end and a handle device rotatably attached to the other end with a block member attached to the channel member oppositely disposed the head member, the head member being locked in an operating position to the block member by a bolt member passing through the block member and having a hook on one end thereof which engages a receptacle in the head member and is secured therein by tightening a nut member threadably engaged on the other end of the bolt member to hold the head member in a fixed position with respect to the channel member. Alternatively, the head member is locked to the block member by a sliding pin located in a receptacle in the head member and biased to engage a hole in the block member when the head member is rotated into its operating position.

A chamber, housing a slideable lock pin, communicates with the slot in the upper handle part so that when the upper and lower handle parts are assembled the lock pin firmly and securely engages the hatchet head in locking it to the upper handle part.
