A slide is provided with a sliding surface along which a person may slide. The slide includes a bridging structure spanning the sliding surface and a valve mounted to the bridging structure and coupled to a source of water. A spray nozzle is selectively coupled through the valve to the water source. The spray nozzle is mounted to the bridging structure to spray water toward the sliding surface when the valve couples the nozzle to the water source. A trigger hangs from the bridging structure adjacent the sliding surface and controls the valve to direct water to the spray nozzle when the trigger is contacted and displaced by the user. The nozzle sprays water onto the user as the user activates the trigger by sliding under the bridging structure.

A mobile and compact simulated-wave water ride attraction (100) is provided having one or more sluice slide-over covers (150) for ensuring the safety of riders in the absence of an extended transition surface or using a shortened transition surface. Advantageously, the ride attraction (100) comprises a plurality of transportable modules (211, 212, 213, 214, 215, 216, 217, 218) and other associated components that can be shipped between sites using trucks, trains or other transportation means. The slide-over sluice cover (150) advantageously enables riders to safely slide over the sluice gate and/or injection nozzle (130) without risk of injury or interference with ride operation. The sluice cover (150) comprises a contoured flexible pad which covers and extends over the top surface of the sluice gate (130). A flexible tongue (160) is provided which is urged downward squeezing against the flow (138) and sealing the nozzle area off from possible injurious contact from a rider. The shape of the tongue (160) also provides a short transition surface over the top of which a rider can slide without injury. A padded fixed decking (190) is provided and in conjunction with the sluice cover (150) it allows the rider to perform a variety of new and exciting skimming/surfing tricks and maneuvers.

A participatory water slide play apparatus (100) is disclosed upon which a ride participant (50) can slide from an upper portion (14) to a lower portion (16). Sensor/actuator devices (62, 64, 66, 68, 70, 72, 74) are positioned on or adjacent the slide (100) at locations intermediate the upper and lower portions thereof and are linked to associated play elements (30, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40), such as water forming elements, noise making devices, scoring devices, and the like. While traveling down the slide (100), the ride participant (50) is able to actuate one or more of the sensor/actuator devices to trigger one or more associated play elements and/or effects. Thus, aside from the enjoyment of the ride itself, ride participants (50) can bring about desired effects and/or actively participate or interact with other ride participants located on or around the slide play structure (100) in a fun and exciting manner.

A water ride includes a flume (10) defining a ride path. Patrons of the ride travel in rafts (24) along the flume (10) with the rafts riding on a thin layer of water introduced into the flume. To induce the rafts (24) to spin at desired locations in a controlled fashion, the rafts each include raft features (30) located on a bottom surface (32) of the raft. Flume features (34) are positioned at desired locations along the ride path in position to make contact with the raft features (30). This contact between the raft features (30) and the flume features (34) induces a controlled spin to the raft (24). The raft features (30) preferably include projections (36) extending downwardly from the bottom surface (32) of the raft at locations offset from a raft center of rotation. The flume features (34) preferably comprise alternating depressions (38) and ridges (40) extending transversely to the ride path along one side of the flume (10).

A slide structure for use with a sled 16 suitable for human occupancy is designed to have human occupant sleds sliding down into a body of water. The slide structure 15 comprises a support framework 18, on which a plastics sheet material is provided, and a water supply means which is adapted to supply only a thin film of water to the slide structure of an upper surface of the plastics sheet material. This water supply means may be operated at lower power levels and water supply rates, to provide the thin film and thus a very low coefficient of friction, so that the sleds attain a high speed for a quiet, fast, smooth and more exciting ride, yet with reduced wear on both the slide and sleds. |
