PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a traveling measuring instrument for accurately measuring the traveling speed or the like of a swimmer. SOLUTION: The traveling measuring instrument comprises a camera 3 for shooting a pool 10 where the swimmer 9 swims from directly above, and a control section 8 for calculating the traveling speed of the swimmer 9 based on the shot image of the camera 2. Shooting the swimmer 9 from directly above prevents the site of the swimmer 9 that is a measurement target from being hidden by the rotation of the arm of the swimmer 9, and water spray, bubbles, and the like caused by the rotation of the arm, thus accurately grasping the position of the swimmer 9 for each unit time based on the shot image, and hence continuously measuring the traveling speed of the swimmer.
