201 Detachable golf club JP2007513311 2005-05-12 JP4799551B2 2011-10-26 ジェイ. パトリック ドロップルマン,
A separable putter golf club includes an upper shaft portion with a grip and a lower shaft portion with a club head, wherein the upper and lower shaft portions can be quickly connected and disconnected, while allowing a large amount of force to be transferred there through. The upper and lower shaft portions may be connected by a first and second connector portions, that may be engaged and rotated relative to each other. The first connector portion may include a first locking member having a plurality of outwardly protruding lugs and a guide rod, while the second connector portion may include a second locking member having a cavity and a bore. The bore is adapted to receive the guide rod, and the cavity is adapted to receive the outwardly protruding lugs. During connection, the user engages the first locking member with the second locking member, inserts the lugs into the cavity, and rotates the first and second connector portions relative to each other thereby causing the lugs to fixedly engage the cavity, which causes the upper and lower shaft portions of the golf club to be connected together.

An iron base alloy, which is produced by a method comprising mixing a powder, fiber or foil of iron with at least one of stainless steel and Al in the form of a powder, fiber or foil and optionally with another metal such as Ni or Cr, and then subjecting the resultant mixture to mechanical alloying, to thereby prepare a metal powder comprising the above metals and having finely formed crystal grains; and a metallic material having a predetermined shape which is manufactured by forming the metal powder by plasma discharge sintering or the like. The resultant metal material has finely formed crystal grains, exhibits high strength and high hardness, and thus can be suitably used as a member for a golf club, particularly, for a face of a golf club head. Further, an iron base alloy having a specific gravity lower than that of a generally available iron base alloy, such as stainless steel, can be produced through using an appropriate additive element.

A golf club includes a clubhead and a curved or bent shaft which has a tip end which extends at an angle relative to the remainder of the shaft. The tip end of the shaft is attached to a hosel on the clubhead and extends upwardly and forwardly from the clubhead. The upper end of the shaft extends away from the clubhead to provide the lie angle of the club. The angled tip end moves the upper end of the shaft forwardly relative to the center of gravity of the clubhead, and increases the ability to rotate the face of the clubhead back to a square position during the golf swing.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a golf club provided with an adjustable shaft. SOLUTION: For the golf club 1 provided with the adjustable shaft, the shaft comprises an inner shaft part and an outer shaft part which receives an end of the inner shaft within the shaft in fitting arrangement, and an internal tube is firmly fixed within the outer shaft part and extended along the inner side of the outer shaft to engage the inner shaft part in the fitting arrangement. One of the internal tubes and the inner shaft part are split at the end of the shaft. The club is provided with a locking function by which the inner shaft and the internal tube can be locked together against relative axial and rotational movement and the locking function comprises an expander withdrawn into the split end to cause it to become splayed so as to engage the other internal surface of the internal tube and the inner shaft part. The expander is withdrawn into the split end to widen the end of the expander by the action of an elastically deformable spring which biases the expander towards a locking position.

The golf club shaft according to the present invention is provided with a pseudo-cylindrical concave polyhedral shell structure composed of triangles or trapezoids on the entire outer circumferential surface or on a part of the outer circumferential surface. With this structure of the golf club shaft, the degradation in the mechanical strength and the increase in the material cost are prevented. At the same time, a lighter weight golf club shaft can be produced while a greater degree of freedom is allowed in designing the characteristics such as bending stiffness distribution, a kick point position, bend point, etc. upon designing the golf club shaft.

A tubular blank for producing golf club shafts comprises a butt section having a uniform cross-sectional configuration along its length, a tip section also having a uniform cross-sectional configuration along its length, and a tapered section interconnecting the butt and tip sections. Metallurgically formed rifling on the interior surface of the blank extends throughout the entirety of the butt, tip and tapered sections. The golf club shafts produced from these blanks have increased strength and stiffness which is a direct result of the interior rifling. A set of golf club shafts preferably is produced from a group of these tubular blanks with each blank of the group having the same length and the same natural frequency. Predetermined portions are then selectively removed from the tip and butt sections. The ultimately produced golf club shafts are frequency matched along a predetermined gradient and each shaft of the set has a predetermined stiffness distribution along its length directly related to the stiffness distribution of the other shafts of the set.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a golf club shaft significantly improved in strength and solidity by rifling metallurgically formed on the inner surface of the shaft. SOLUTION: A tubular material piece for manufacturing a golf club shaft comprises a base part 12 of uniform cross-sectional form in the lengthwise direction, a tip part 14 of uniform cross-sectional form in the lengthwise direction, and a taper part for connecting the base part 12 and the tip part 14. Rifling metallurgically formed on the inner surface of the material piece is extended over the whole of the base part 12 tip part 14 and tapered part. The golf club shaft manufactured of these material pieces is increased in strength and solidity as a direct result of internal rifling. A golf club shaft set is manufactured of a group of these tubular material pieces respectively with the same length and the same characteristic frequency. Specified parts are then selectively eliminated from the tip part and the base part.
