A weight training treadmill and a method for controlling the same are provided to allow a user's force to act as a weight training when a braking voltage of a motor is generated when a running belt is moved in a reverse direction, and a controller to change a driving and a braking force of the motor according to the user's force so as to regulate an exercise strength. A weight training treadmill includes: a driving motor, controlled by a motor driver; a running belt(1), arranged on two rotating axes which are distanced from each other, in such a manner that it wraps them and is rotated by them; a lower frame(13), on which the running belt is mounted; a vertical frame(14), supported by the lower frame; and a controlling device(4), mounted on the vertical frame so as to control the motor driver. The running belt is stopped after it is moved by a determined distance in a determined direction by the motor, and then moved in a reverse direction by a user's force, so that a forward driving force of the motor is removed, and so just a load resistance is generated, and that the load resistance of the motor acts as a weight training load.

A device for retrofitting onto or incorporating into a conventional weightlifting machine is provided. The device includes a charge tank and a load tank and a set of hoses for communicating fluid between the tanks. The load tank rests atop a conventional weight stack, while the charge tank rests on the floor proximal to the weightlifting machine. A fluid control means is provided for alternatively filling the load tank with water stored in the the charge tank and draining the fluid back into the charge tank from the load tank, as desired. Before an exercise, the load tank is filled with water using the fluid control means. During the exercise, the fluid control means is set to allow water to drain back into the charge tank. The flow rate is set, either manually or through the use of a computer-controller, so that the weight-lifter is lifting his maximum capacity of weight during each repetition.

The invention relates to training equipment with a first (2) and a second (4) weight magazine, which produce a variable resistance force in a line in the shape of a first toothed belt (10), to which e.g. a (not shown) draw handle is connectable for the application of muscle force (F1). The first toothed belt (10) loaded by the mass (M1) of the first weight magazine (2), and a second toothed belt (12) is loaded by the mass (M2) of the second weight magazine (4), which second toothed belt furthermore is connected to a pneumatic operating cylinder (26), which is supplied by means of an operating unit (28). The toothed belts are connectable by means of a locking yoke (32), and the operating cylinder is activable depending on control signals from the operating unit (28), which in turn reacts on signals from sensors (50, 54, 58) depending on the position (V1; V2) of the first magazine (2). Through alternatingly coupling together the toothed belts (10; 12) with each other, it is possible to load the first toothed belt (10) with either the mass (M1) or the sum of the masses (M1) and (M2).
