Die Erfindung besteht aus einer in die Außenwand eines Bahnfahrzeuges integrierten Kabine, die seitlich herausgefahren und senkrecht auf den Bahnsteig abgesenkt wird. Beim Absenken wird die Kabine um ca. 30° gegenüber dem Bahnfahrzeug in Richtung Bahnsteig geschwenkt. So ist ein gefahrloses Ein- bzw. Ausfahren für den Rollstuhlfahrer möglich. Die Einrichtung ist so gestaltet, dass der Rollstuhlfahrer ohne fremde Hilfe den Rollstuhllift benutzen kann. Es ist lediglich eine Überwachung durch eine verantwortliche Person notwendig, wobei diese Überwachung aus der Ferne erfolgen kann.
