An adjunct call processor connected to a communications network for providing call processing services. The network includes a switching system including a switch for concurrently servicing a plurality of communications paths and a switch controller for controlling the switch, the switch controller being responsive to switching commands communicated to it. The adjunct call processor is coupled to the switching system for (i) automatically receiving a call from a caller which has been switched to the adjunct call processor by the switching system, (ii) interacting with the caller, and (iii) based on that interaction, transmitting one or more of the switching commands to the switching system causing the call to be handled by the switching system externally of the adjunct call processor.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a modem which will not consume electric power, more than needed when no subscriber's terminal is connected to the modem by canceling the channel to the equipment of an exchange. SOLUTION: The modem is provided with a first interface 50, which is used for interfacing a subscriber's terminal unit, a second interface 70 which is used for interfacing the equipment of the exchange, and a connected state for detecting means for subscriber's terminal which detects the communication connected state to the subscriber's terminal and outputs a detected result signal. The modem is also provided with a control section 60, which processes two-way data communication between the subscriber's terminal unit and equipment of the exchange, and when a non-connected signal is inputted from the connected state detecting means, controls the second interface 70 to stop the operation of the interface 70.

30 B channel control system for incoming response JP28088690 1990-10-19 JPH04156150A 1992-05-28 AKIBA NAOMI; KUDO KOJI
PURPOSE: To eliminate unused unnecessary B channels to efficiently perform communication by switching a B channel reserved for a terminal to a B channel of an incoming call to release the reserved B channel at the time of reserving the B channel, which is used for speech at present, for the purpose of responding to the incoming call. CONSTITUTION: Another call hunts an idle B channel to come while a terminal equipment 1a out of plural terminal equipments 1a to 1c connected to one subscriber line 3 is busy; and when speech is started in response to this call in this case, communication is performed with the B channel of the incoming call. The call connected at present is reserved, and the B channel of another call is stored as terminal equipment-classified reserve data in a storage means 6, and the B channel used for the former call is released. Thus, B channels are effectively used without occupying two B channels when the call connected at present is held for the purpose of responding to the another incoming call. The invention provides an apparatus and method for processing incoming telephone calls directed to a user. A valid identification signal from the user is detected and then the user is transferred to a system command mode. In the command mode, a request from the user for information regarding a present mode by which incoming calls are processed is identified, the current mode by which incoming calls are processed is recalled from memory, and the results are transmitted to the user.
35 Communicator for a telephone system US436593 1995-05-08 US6067443A 2000-05-23 Robert M. Fuller; Frederick A. Epler; Maxwell E. Manowski
A communication system for coupling incoming calls from a calling party to a called party. The system includes at least one paging device and a plurality of other communications devices associated with prospective called parties, each of the other communications devices possessing communications capabilities different from the paging device. A programmed computer is responsive to signalling information in an incoming call for determining which paging device is associated with the called party and for determining which of the other communications devices is associated with the called party. An alerting signal is coupled to that paging device to alert the called party of the incoming call and a signal transmitted by the called party is detected in order to control further processing of the incoming call.
36 Interactive call identification US632860 1996-04-16 US6041103A 2000-03-21 Thomas F. La Porta; Arun N. Netravali
A method and apparatus for interactive call identification of a call to a called party. Identifying messages, either text and voice, can be entered on a call-by call basis by the calling party to provide information regarding the call to enable the called party to screen the incoming call. Such identifying messages can include descriptive information about the identity of the caller, the subject matter of the call or any other user-user information. The identifying message is transmitted in the form of a real-time message sent by the caller and received by the party being called in advance of their accepting the call. The identifying message is created on a call-by-call basis by the calling party. The called party receives the identifying message and, after receiving the message, the called party can accept, forward or reject the incoming call based on the information provided in the identifying message. The calling party has the option of using either real-time or pre-recorded message functions. The calling party can select, via a predetermined access code to enter a personal message (voice or text) directly from the location from which the call is being placed after dialing the desired number. Interactive call identification can be initiated either by the called or calling party.
37 Product registration system US429907 1995-04-27 US5907600A 1999-05-25 Robert M. Fuller; Frederick A. Epler; Maxwell E. Manowski
A system for reporting to a central station identifying information associated with a product, such as a programmed apparatus. The apparatus has a port for connection to a telephone line. The apparatus may be programmed to render itself temporarily inoperable until certain identifying information has been acquired. After receipt of such identifying information, the system initiates a telephone call to the central station and reports the entered identifying information thereto.

A telephone system for providing enhanced telephone services. The system includes a telephone switch servicing a plurality of telephone subscribers via communication facilities of the switch, which facilities hande both voice and data communications. A telephone switch controller is coupled to the switch for controlling the switch to provide an enhanced service not otherwise available in the switch. The controller communicates with the switch using data in the form of switch functions. The controller includes a memory for storing a sequence of switch functions, swhich sequence defines the enhanced service. The controller communicates a prompt to a caller in response to a telephone call placed by the caller to a predetermined telephone address associated with a subscriber and communicates the sequence of switch functions stored in the memory to the switching system in response to a command received from the caller to provide the enhanced service.

A method of and apparatus for providing telecommunication services to a user. When the user is engaged in a first telephone call via a telephone switch with a first party and a second party attempts to place a second telephone call to the user via the switch, the method and apparatus advise the second caller that the user is engaged in a telephone conversation and allow the second caller to determine whether to interrupt the user or choose another alternative. The user can then decide whether to accept the call from the second caller, putting the first caller on hold, or to refuse the second call. Alternative embodiments are disclosed where the user is advised of the identity of the second caller (or wherein the user has previously authorized certain callers to interrupt a current call with a new call), and then the user can decide whether to accept the call from the second party (placing the first party on hold) or to deny the second party (in which case the second party is transferred to a message center).
40 Methods for performing intelligent network services with an ISDN network terminator located at a subscriber's premise US706047 1996-08-30 US5812535A 1998-09-22 Charles Clifford Hallock; Baiju Dhirajlal Mandalia; Himanshu Chandrakant Parikh; Gaby J. Disclosed are call processing methods which are performed by a network terminator located at a subscriber's premise. The network terminator is coupled to a digital network and a communication device at the subscriber's premise and can perform call waiting, caller identification, call conferencing without intervention from a telco's switching system that requires an additional charge to the subscriber for these services. In addition, the network terminator can perform a method which allows two digital communication devices coupled to one S-bus to share a communication session. In another embodiment, up to a six way conference call can be established with an analog telephone coupled to an ISDN network via the network terminator of the present invention.
