82 Stretcher US763568 1991-09-23 US5179746A 1993-01-19 D. Randall Rogers
A stretcher operated by one or more persons for transporting an injured patient and including a body board for supporting a patient's upper legs and body, a slide member received within the body board and extendible selected distances therefrom, and a base portion connected to the slide member opposite the body board for supporting a patient's feet and ankles. The body board has a pair of protective skids which slide on a subjacent supporting surface with the skids supporting the body board and base portion a selected distance above the supporting surface. Wheels rotably connected to the base portion support the stretcher when the stretcher is tilted relative to the supporting surface such that an individual may transport a patient on the stretcher. The wheels are supported above the skids and thus do not interfere with the sliding movement thereof. A pivotal foot rest is connected to the base portion and supports the patient when the stretcher is tilted about a transverse axis. Straps are provided to secure the patient to the stretcher and support the patient when the stretcher is tilted. An elongated handle assembly is pivotally connected to a selected end of the stretcher for controlling the sliding motion thereof down a steep incline. Flotation apparatus, detachably and reattachably connected to the body board, provide means for supporting the body board and a patient when the body board is placed in water. Apparatus for securing an oxygen tank to the stretcher is also provided and incudes a transparent cover for isolating portions of the oxygen tank from the patient's body.

A stretcher for use in confined areas such as a mine tunnel for transporting sick or injured persons which is constructed for mounting on sideboard structure of a conveyor in the mine tunnel. The stretcher includes a frame having a generally flat portion for supporting the sick or injured person on the stretcher. Rollers mounted on the frame for rolling engagement with the sideboard structure support the frame on the sideboard structure so that the structure may move translationally over the sideboard stretcher. Guide rollers maintain the rollers in engagement with the sideboard structure.

86 Device for transporting disabled or sick persons US168654 1988-03-16 US4945583A 1990-08-07 Alois Schnitzler
A device for transporting disabled or sick persons comprises a stretcher mattress attachable to a stretcher frame or a transport vehicle by means of a belt band emerging from the underside of the foot end of said mattress. Belt bands which issue at the head end of the upper side of said mattress in the vicinity of its central longitudinal axis and interact with additional belt bands projecting laterally in the middle area from the edge of said mattress result in secure support of the disabled or sick person during transport on his back or side and allow the attending physician unimpeded access to the subject's thorax. Bracings located beneath said mattress and connected to one another by means of hinges allow the subject to be transported in close quarters. There are furthermore provided wedge-shaped cushions forming a bolstered edge portion, under which cushions a sheet to be placed on said mattress can be inserted without removing the belts.
87 Evacuation chair US750993 1985-07-02 US4711487A 1987-12-08 Royce L. Brooks
A chair secured between parallel carrier arms which extend from the front and back of the chair enables the carrying of a handicapped person by two other people including on staircases or under other conditions where conventional conveyances for the handicapped such as wheel chairs, gurneys, stretchers or the like are unsuitable. The chair is extendable and contractable relative to the carrier arms between an expanded operating configuration and a flat compact storage configuration which makes it practical to stock and prominently display the apparatus in locations such as high rise buildings where it may be needed during emergency evacuations or for other purposes.

This invention relates to a wheeled stretcher in which the plane on which the patient lies is adaptable in height, comprising a frame on which is fixed a top element and which rests on the ground via a support provided with wheels, wherein each leg of the support is connected to the frame by a connecting rod articulated respectively on the frame and on the leg, said rod being connected to means for adjusting the top element in height and said leg being connected to a means for maintaining and inclining the top element.
89 Safety belt system for a patient stretcher US609265 1984-05-11 US4569095A 1986-02-11 Gerd Holling
A safety belt system for a patient stretcher (1) comprises an upper belt loop (6) which surrounds the lying surface (1d) of the stretcher in the patient's shoulder region, also a lower belt loop (3) which surrounds the lying surface (1d) in the region of the patient's feet. Two shoulder belts (8a,8b) are each secured at one end to the upper belt loop (6) and at their other end are connected via a quick-action fastening (12, 13) to the lower belt loop (3). The belt loops (3, 6) consist at least partly of elastically stretchable material and hold around the lying surface (1d) of the stretcher because of their elasticity, so that the safety belt system can be used in all normal stretchers and independently of whether there is an overlay lying on the stretcher or not.
90 Stretcher having backrest and safety harness US361906 1982-03-11 US4534075A 1985-08-13 Alois Schnitzler
The invention is with respect to a stretcher for ambulances. The stretcher has a backup or retainer cushion for keeping a patient in position when acted upon by jerks or by sudden motion in the length-direction of the ambulance. The backup cushion is united with a safety belt, which is so placed on the patient that the patient is kept in position in relation to the stretcher when suddenly jerked in the length-direction. In the case of one form of the invention, the backup cushion is elastically supported so that the body of the patient is not suddenly slowed down. As part of a useful further development of the invention, the backup cushion is joined with a fixing belt, which, for its part, is drivingly joined up with the lock or ratchet of an automatic belt take-up roller or pulley. This roller itself has a safety belt which, on loading the stretcher onto a stretcher support of the ambulance, is joined up with the floor of the vehicle, more specially automatically. The design is such that, when the fixing belt is acted upon by a sudden pulling force on decelerating at more than a certain rate, the automatic belt roller is locked by way of the lock. Because of this, the patient and the stretcher are safely kept in position. The design may furthermore be used in connection with stretchers designed as day-beds.
