The first electrode(1) moves in the axial direction within the internal space of the housings(7,8). The second electrode(5) starts discharge in the discharge area while being adjacent the first electrode(1) according to the movement of the first electrode(1) to generate an arc. The insulator(10) is placed between the first and second electrodes(1,5) except for the discharge area. The wire coil(A) generates an axial magnetic field in the discharge area of the housings(7,8). The arc moves in the axial direction of the housings(7,8) along a spiral trajectory due to the magnetic fields from the arc and the wire coil.
