Provided is a card reader with which a pressing part of a detection switch can be pressed reliably when the card reader is attached to a higher-level device, even if the configuration of the higher-level device is simplified. This card reader (1), which is used when attached to a higher-level device (5), is equipped with: a detection switch (12a), which is arranged on a card-reader-side attachment surface (6a) for the purpose of detecting that the card reader (1) has been detached from the higher-level device (5); and a first seal member (13b), which covers the detection switch (12a) to prevent the infiltration of water, and is sandwiched between the detection switch (12a) and a higher-level-device-side attachment surface (7a), which is a surface on the higher-level device (5) side. The detection switch (12a) has a pressing part (27), and turns on or off when the pressing part (27) is pressed. Pressing protrusions (13c, 13e) for pressing the pressing part (27) are formed on the first seal member (13b).

The invention relates to an anti-intrusion device for protecting cases. It is primarily used for protecting a case of an electronic payment terminal or of case of a PIN-Pad. The inventive anti-intrusion device permits the detection of potential attempts to open a case. To this end, it comprises at least one spring (3), said spring being arranged so that it is under pressure and electrically acts upon an electronic circuit (2) when the case is closed and no longer acts upon the electronic circuit when the case is open.
193 Mechanism for detecting separation of a component from a part and a component carrying such a mechanism EP10250274.7 2010-02-17 EP2230651A1 2010-09-22 Selwood, Andrew George

A component (10) of a device, such as a keypad mechanism (10) of a cash dispenser, is provided with a mechanism for detecting separation of the component from another part (16) of the device, for example a front panel (16) of the cash dispenser. The mechanism includes a member (64) moveable between first and second position, and biasing means (34) to bias the member resiliently in the first position. In use, the member (64) is forced into the second position by contact with the part (16). If the component (10) and the part (16) are separated, the member (64) moves from the second position to the first position. The mechanism also includes a signal means to provide a warning signal when the member (64) moves to the first position. A tube (50) of ceramic material or other hard material is provided to resist ingress of a drill bit to the member (64).

A tamper switch actuator is used in combination with a circuit board held between two outer structural members. The tamper switch actuator includes a suspended displacement member moveable to a conducting position after a given amount of compression of a compressing member. The compressing member cooperates with an outer protecting sleeve and is positioned within and moveable in the axial direction of the sleeve. The tamper switch actuator separates the outer protecting sleeve from the displacement member. With this arrangement the electrical conducting surface of the displacement member can quickly respond to separation of the casing to produce a non-conducting condition or tamper indicating conditions while remaining protected within the outer protecting sleeve.

Described is a terminal (10) for recording and billing goods and services on the operator side (12) and for the customer-operated handling of cashless payment operations on the customer side (24). Between the customer side (24) and the operator side (12) is a printing zone (20) with a printer, an input/output slot (102), accessible at least from above, for forms (106) and an opening (104) for outputting receipts (108). This disposition of the printing zone (20) enables the customer to make cashless payments independently without the aid of an operator. The ergonomic design of the printing zone is such, however, that the operator can assist the customer if so requested.

In a keypad for an ATM or the like, in addition to mechanical keys (14) which when operated press areas (24) on a pressure sensitive layer (22) against a backing plate (32), and thereby close a corresponding normally-open switch (S), additional areas (26) are arranged as normally-closed switches A, with pressure applied by protrusions (36) on the backing plate (32). If the backing plate is removed, the switches A open, and the change is sensed by a monitoring circuit (48).
