241 EL SHEET KEYPAD EP05789567.4 2005-03-14 EP1743474A1 2007-01-17 SHIN, Dong Hyuk; BAE, Kwang Hyuk; JANG, Wonbong
An EL sheet keypad comprises a conductive material layer coated on the entire surface of an EL sheet or the surface of the EL sheet where light is not emitted. The conductive material layer is connected to ground of a printed circuit board or to ground of the EL sheet by means of a conductive adhesive tape or conductive paste. According to the present invention, damage to the internal circuits of the mobile phone, which may occur when testing appropriateness of the EL sheet, is prevented. Furthermore, the EL sheet keypad has electrostatic shock and electromagnetic interference shielded functions.

A portable communication device (10) has an electronic circuit board (20) arranged inside a housing (12), and a keypad (30), the individual keys (32) of which are arranged, when depressed, to collapse a respective tactile dome (52) on a domefoil (50) interposed between the keypad and the circuit board, so as to establish electric contact with a respective contact point (22) on the circuit board. The communication device has means for protecting the circuit board from electrostatic discharge (ESD). The domefoil (50) is formed as a non-conductive sheet providing an air-tight and/or electrostatic seal between the keypad (30) and the circuit board (20), whereby the domefoil functions as said ESD-protective means.

A foil-type switching element comprises a first carrier foil and a second carrier foil arranged at a certain distance from each other by means of a spacer, said spacer comprising at least one recess defining an active area of the switching element. At least two electrodes are arranged in the active area of the switching element between said first and second carrier foils in such a way that, in response to a pressure acting on the active area of the switching element, the first and second carrier foils are pressed together against the reaction force of the elastic carrier foils and an electrical contact is established between the at least two electrodes. According to the invention, at least one of said carrier foils comprises a multi-layered configuration with at least two layers of different materials.

An dispersion electroluminescent device and a switch unit using the same are disclosed. The dispersion electroluminescent device includes three electrodes: first and second electrode layers and a common electrode layer. The common electrode layer is disposed between the first and second electrode layers. An electroluminescent layer and a first dielectric layer are disposed between the first electrode layer and the common electrode layer. A second dielectric layer is disposed between the common electrode layer and the second electrode layer. A voltage source applies first and second ac or dc pulse voltages, which are 180° out of phase with each other, across the first electrode layer and the common electrode layer and across the common electrode layer and the second electrode layer, respectively, for canceling mechanical vibrations produced at the first and second dielectric layers by each other.
