A foldable keyboard for inputting data into a portable electronic device is provided. The foldable keyboard includes an upper cover, a lower cover, a first keyboard portion, and a second keyboard portion. A space is formed, as the upper and the lower cover are in closed relationship to each other, for accommodating the first and second keyboard portions. As the upper and lower covers are opened from the closed relationship and the second keyboard portion, relative to the first keyboard portion, is rotated pivotally, said first and second keyboard portions are allowed to be substantially on a common plane.

A tactile feedback simulating fabrication for use with an input device provides flexible mouldings (801) locatable above detection positions. Flexible mouldings (801) provide tactile feedback simulating a key-press. Each of the mouldings (801) defines a top portion (802) and a flexible side wall (803). A flexible fabric layer (804) is attached to the flexible mouldings thereby significantly enhancing the durability of these mouldings.

89 Detector constructed from electrically conducting fabric US09980298 2001-11-29 US20020134116A1 2002-09-26 David Lee Sandbach
The present invention relates to a detector constructed from electrically conducting fabric and configured to present a varying electrical characteristic in response to a mechanical interaction. The detector comprises a first conducting layer (401) which is displaced from a second conducting layer (402) such that conduction between the layers results when the layers are mechanically forced together. In addition, the first of the layers has a plurality of lengths of conductive yarn and a plurality of lengths of non-conductive yarn machined therein, such that at least one length of conductive yarn is electrically isolated from another of the lengths of conductive yarn and the conducting yarns in the first of the layers are electrically grouped to define a plurality of identifiable rows. Each identifiable row has a respective electrical conductor; and define specific regions of the detector.

A flexible or roll-up electronic keyboard is provided for use with electronic devices. The keyboard is formed with a plurality of section of flexible plastic materials and embodies a dual-walled bottom which includes a network of support members which can be inflatable to provide a rigidity to the structure of the keyboard sufficient to prevent false signals. At least one separately inflatable accordion-pleated wedge means is also provided to enable variable adjustment of the plane or planes of the keyboard relative to the hands of its operator, sufficient to reduce the risk of nerve disorders such as carpal tunnel syndrome in the operator.
92 Expansion joint for keyboard dome sheets US410912 1989-09-22 US4950874A 1990-08-21 Stephen S. Damitio; George P. English
A dome sheet molded integrally from elastomeric rubber or plastic material is divided into two or more planar sheet sections, each containing a plurality of raised domes used in keyboard actuation. The adjacent sections are integrally joined by a hinged web having walls extending outward from the plane of the sheet. The web permits translational and angular movement of the adjacent sheet sections as required to properly position them between mating keyboard parts during keyboard assembly. This assures more accurate alignment between keyswitch actuators and keyboard switching elements associated with the individual domes about the dome sheet.

An improved body design for a mobile station or other electronic device is provided. Unlike conventional mobile station bodies, which are comprised of durable polymer shells that are rigidly joined together (e.g., by ultra-sonic welding, dhesives, etc.) to enclose operational elements and circuitry, a replaceable and enhanceable body structure comprised is provided that is comprised of one or more stacked elements. The stacked elements are positioned one atop the next in a facing relationship. In one embodiment, the stacked elements define one or more apertures for receiving and enclosing one or more operational elements (e.g. a display, a keypad, an antenna, a mobile station engine, etc.).
