A permanent magnet (52) is attached to a push button (32) and a magnetic metallic plate (58) is fitted to a supporting frame (36). When the button (32) is pressed down toward the panel (4) against the magnetic attraction between the magnet (52) and the metallic plate (58), an operating front-end section (46) operates a touch switch (4a). While the button (32) moves, a sense of stroke is given. In the initial stage of the movement, the magnetic attraction abruptly decreases and the operator of the button (32) feels a sense of click. Since the operator feels the senses of stroke and click when he operates the button (32), the operability of the thin switch device is improved while taking the advantage that the touch panel (4) is thin. |

A light pipe portion (35) of the lamp, capable of transmitting light from the light emitting portion of the lamp, is formed in the membrane. An actuation portion (33) of the switch is also formed in the membrane. The membrane also contains an electrically conductive portion (43) of the switch. When the actuation portion of the switch is deflected by a user's finger or other force, the electrically conductive portion of the switch connects the first and second trace portions of the switch. The continuous membrane protects the electrical equipment from electrostatic discharge and contamination through the input/output device. |
