Bei einer Folientastatur, die auf ihrer dem Benutzer zugewandten Seite Bedienelemente und gegebenenfalls Anzeigeelemente aufweist, wird vorgeschlagen, die zur Ansteuerung und Auswertung der Tastatureingaben erforderlichen elektronischen Bauteile unmittelbar an der Rückseite der Frontplatte anzubringen, die vorzugsweise als Leiterplatte ausgebildet ist. Die Befestigung kann an der Rückseite der Frontplatte entweder durch Auflöten in SMD-Technik oder in Einpreßtechnik erfolgen.

In Einpreßtechnik können auch die rein mechanischen Funktionsteile angebracht werden, die zur Anbringung der Folientastatur an einem Gerät dienen.

A touch panel (4) and an operating section (30) are provided on a display means (2). A permanent magnet (52) is attached to a push button (32) and a magnetic metallic plate (58) is fitted to a supporting frame (36). When the button (32) is pressed down toward the panel (4) against the magnetic attraction between the magnet (52) and the metallic plate (58), an operating front-end section (46) operates a touch switch (4a). While the button (32) moves, a sense of stroke is given. In the initial stage of the movement, the magnetic attraction abruptly decreases and the operator of the button (32) feels a sense of click. Since the operator feels the senses of stroke and click when he operates the button (32), the operability of the thin switch device is improved while taking the advantage that the touch panel (4) is thin.

An input/output device (1) for electrical equipment has a lamp (5) and a switch (3). A circuit board (7) contains a light emitting portion (25) of the lamp and a first and second trace portion (23) of the switch. A continuous membrane (13) of resilient material extends over the light emitting portion of the lamp and the first and second trace portions of the switch. A light pipe portion (35) of the lamp, capable of transmitting light from the light emitting portion of the lamp, is formed in the membrane. An actuation portion (33) of the switch is also formed in the membrane. The membrane also contains an electrically conductive portion (43) of the switch. When the actuation portion of the switch is deflected by a user's finger or other force, the electrically conductive portion of the switch connects the first and second trace portions of the switch. The continuous membrane protects the electrical equipment from electrostatic discharge and contamination through the input/output device.
