A push-button switch member which utilizes light energy without any loss for back-lighting on a display section and which realizes the back-lightening to the display section with an even luminance while suppressing power consumption and having high visibility and thin thickness. The push-button switch member includes a key-top portion and a cover base member which is provided at a predetermined portion of the key-top portion and which is adapted to be mounted to the circuit board. The key-top portion includes a display section for displaying a switching function and an area emitter which is integrally formed with the display section. The area emitter member is provided with a light emitting layer disposed between a base electrode and a transparent electrode, which is disposed so as to oppose the base electrode. The transparent electrode is arranged to be contacted to the display section and is formed of a transparent conductive polymer.

Hiergegen sieht die neue Ausführung vor, daß die Tasten (4) von der Bedienseite her mit Führungsansätzen (7) auf Führungsstempel (10) aufgeschoben und innerhalb einer Verrastung (11) gehalten sind, die eine Verstellung innerhalb zweier Anschläge (12,13) begrenzt, wobei der von der Taste (4) betätigte Schalter (5) innerhalb der Verstellung ein- und ausschaltet. Mit der neuen Ausführung ist eine sehr flache und wirtschaftlich herstellbare Bedientastatur gegeben.

An interactive keyset (22) is provided for original or replacement installation on a set of keyboard switches (28) which control an electronic device (20). Each key (26) comprises a base (32) which mounts a cap (84) having a window (88), an LCD or other display (50) and a backlight (94). Flat flexible plastic wiring strips (54, 64, 74, 78) carry conductors (56) for interconnecting all keys (26) in the keyset (22) with a controller (44). The wiring strips have mounting holes (60) which cooperate with mounting pins (100) on the keys to mechanically connect the strips with the keys. Each key (26) carries a device (110) for assuring electrical contact between contacts (58) on the wiring strips and mating contacts (108) on the displays (50). Manipulation of the keys (28) produces sequential sets of coordinated displays (Figs 12a-e) of key functions.

A keypad structure includes a stiff backing element and an elastomeric cover that have between them a first membrane on which is defined a shorting conductive layer, a second membrane on which is defined a main conductive layer, the second membrane on which the main conductive layer is defined as being adjacent the elastomeric cover rather than the stiff backing element as in the prior art. A third membrane provides spacing between the main and shorting conductive layers when the keypad is not compressed. A elastomeric interconnect can then be used to connect exposed contacts on the main conductive layer with other circuitry in an instrument utilizing the keypad.

The present invention is a low cost electronic apparatus construction method which may be employed for hand held calculators, electronic learning aids and electronic games. The primary electrical circuit interconnection pattern of the electronic apparatus is printed upon a part of the case of the apparatus (11) which must be nonconducting. This printed circuit pattern (12) together with the construction of the back case (11) includes connection portions (21. 22 and 23) for electrical connection to the major components of the apparatus which may include an integrated circuit (15), a display device (16) and an electrical power source (17). The primary circuit pattern printed on the back case includes a plurality of interleaved comb key switch positions (17). The keyboard is constructed employing a plurality of keys aligned in registration with the key switch portions (26), each key having a shorting bar (104) for causing electrical connection across the key switch portion when the key is depressed. The top case (13) of the apparatus has an aperture for viewing the display device and a plurality of apertures for the keys. The keyboard may alternatively be constructed of a flexible membrane (12) in wnich pressure on a key switch position (163) causes electrical contact with a conductive ink (153) disposed in a depression (152) in the case (150) of the apparatus. In an alternative embodiment, the top case also includes an aperture enabling light to shine on a photovoltic power cell (19) employed to generate the electric power needed to ooerate the apparatus.

In order to accommodate relative movement between the movable button 7 and the fixed part 1 of the switch, a plurality of leads 14 connecting a display 10 mounted in the button 7 to the fixed part 1 follow an S-shaped path 15 with first ends extending into the button 7 and second ends extending into the fixed part 1. The leads 14 may be in the form of conductive tracks on a flexible printed circuit board. Such a switch may be used in a typewriter or computer keyboard, for example, and may be controlled to display different legends corresponding to different selectable functions of the switch.

Der Treiber 22 wird zur Darstellung des anzuzeigenden Symbols im Anzeigeelement 14 nur einmal mit der Information versehen und arbeitet selbständig weiter.
