1 Pushbutton keyboard system US41454473 1973-11-09 US3839785A 1974-10-08 BOULANGER H
A keyboard system in which a plurality of spaced sets of conductive members including U and rivet shaped are arranged at a surface of a support in electrical communication with conductive paths on an opposite surface of the support. A plurality of actuatable conductive elements, one for each set of conductive members, are provided to establish bridging electrical connection between conductive members of a set upon application of a preselected deflecting force to the conductive elements. Two pole embodiments are disclosed also employing rivet shaped and modified U shaped conductive members.
2 Keyboard with versatile switch support structures US535529 1975-01-10 US3962556A 1976-06-08 Robert T. Kravchuck
A keyboard has contact pairs on a substrate and has a support with openings therein secured over and spaced from the substrate with the support openings aligned with respective contact pairs on the substrate. Switch mechanisms disposed in the support openings each have a contact member which is movable in a switch housing by a plunger between a depressed position and a retracted position and each switch housing has stop and detent means mounting the mechanism on a support opening so that the contact element bridges a substrate contact pair when the contact element is in depressed position. Some switch mechanisms have a cam on the housing and a cam follower on the plunger for holding the contact element in depressed position until released by manual movement of the plunger and other mechanisms cooperate with guide means mounted in adjacent support openings to mount bar-type key cap means.

5 Switch assembly US285568 1988-12-16 US4922070A 1990-05-01 Dale W. Dorinski
A switch assembly includes a housing 25 having a recess 26 with switch contacts 23 in the recess. A flexible sheet 21 is affixed to the housing and covers the recess. The flexible sheet carries a conductive contact 22. When the sheet is depressed, its contact engage the contacts in the recess to complete an electrical circuit. The housing can be formed as a molded plastic member with the switch contacts being formed on the plastic member.
6 Illuminated keyboard apparatus US106777 1979-12-26 US4288672A 1981-09-08 Richard E. Puccini
A keyboard system is disclosed which is particularly useful in vehicle control panels in which illumination of key indicia is desired to facilitate identification and actuation of selected keys. The system includes a housing for mounting key switches in a selected array. Disposed in the housing is a frame having key receiving apertures extending through a top wall of the frame and mounting a circuit board thereunder. The circuit board includes a normally open electrical contact set aligned with each key receiving aperture. The frame is composed of light transmitting material and is arranged to transmit light from a light source mounted below the circuit board into and through the key identification indicia formed in a label disposed on top of the frame. In one embodiment the indicia is in alignment with the pushbutton members through which light is directed while in another embodiment the indicia is located adjacent the pushbutton members.
7 Pushbutton keyboard system US492670 1974-07-29 US4163125A 1979-07-31 Henry J. Boulanger
A keyboard system has an insulating support having a first surface on which conductive paths are arranged. A plurality of spaced sets of U-shaped conductive members are arranged at an opposite surface of the support in electrical communication with first portions of the conductive paths and U-shaped contact members are associated with the sets of conductive members on said opposite surface of the support in electrical communication with second portions of the conductive paths. A plurality of selectively actuable conductive elements are provided in continuous electrical contact with respective sets of conductive members in disengagement with the associated contact members to be selectively deflected into engagement with selected contact members to establish bridging electrical connection between the selected conductive members and contact members for electrically connecting first and second preselected portions of the conductive paths.

10 Diaphragm pushbutton switch array for keyboards US3707609D 1971-10-27 US3707609A 1972-12-26 DAPOT MARTIN H; BOULANGER HENRY J
A system employing a keyboard comprises a base mounting an array of key bodies each adapted to reciprocably move to cause actuation of electrical circuits. A diaphragm is employed as an electrical conductor moving into and out of engagement with underlying contacts upon actuation and deactuation of the key body. Bounding problems have been minimized while maintaining tactile feedback by locating a spring member between the key and its respective diaphragm providing increased motion differential and by providing elongate guiding surfaces which eliminate skew movement of the key. Several forms of keys and key mountings are shown embodying the elongated guideway including an elongated hub molded in the bezel plate and receiving a close fitting rod portion of the key, a separate tubular guide and close fitting plunger, and a key having tabs extending laterally therefrom, the tabs slidably received in grooves formed in the base. Another embodiment particularly useful where two or more circuits are to be actuated from the same key employs a second spring to maintain the diaphragm away from the underlying contacts until the key is depressed thereby precluding undesirable back circuits without the use of blocking diodes or the like.
