23 Sound insulating device for wind instrument to be practiced with sound dampled such as saxophone JP3724093 1993-01-18 JPH06214559A 1994-08-05 NISHIJIMA KAZUFUMI
PURPOSE: To freely practice the wind instrument at home without worrying about a noise problem by putting the whole musical instrument in a special box in consideration of how much sound insulation effect is improved. CONSTITUTION: Open-cellular sponge is formed into a cylinder in single - triple structure, the wind instant is put therein, and the internal diameter of the open- cellular sponge cylinder is made close to the thickness of the wind instrument. Further, the cylinder is covered with a rubber-made sound insulating sheet, etc., and the top and bottom parts are lidded with open-cellular sponge 3, rubber- made sound insulating sheets 4, and acryl plates 5; and the whole body is put in another cylinder formed of a larger rubber-made sound insulating sheet 10, etc., and the top and bottom parts are lidded into the same structure to form the sound insulating device in double structure on the whole. Further, the acryl plates 5 are covered with open-cellular sponge 16 and black cell sponge 17 which are equal in diameter and thickness to the acryl plates 5 so as to insulate sound from the top and bottom parts. Therefore, the sound of the wind instrument can be made weaker than the original sound. COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio

PURPOSE: A muting device for a wind instrument is provided to enable a user to play or practice a wind instrument regardless of time and place without generating noise problems by using a muting function in playing the wind instrument. CONSTITUTION: A muting device (100) for a wind instrument includes a muting housing unit, embossing units (40), a muting member, and a noise filter member. The muting housing unit is composed of a plurality of muting drums and a main muting drum (10). The embossing units are formed close to each other on the inner and outer peripheries of the muting drums and the main muting drum so that the contact area of the embossing units and the inside of the muting housing is increased. The muting member is formed on the top surface of the embossing unit and spread or bonded on the inner and outer peripheries of the muting drums and the main muting drum. The noise filter member is interposed between the main muting drum and the muting drums.

A mute unit 20 is attached to a trumpet. Inside the mute unit 20, a microphone 21 is mounted, so that a sound collected by the microphone 21 is converted to an electric signal. The electric signal is supplied to a signal processor 30. The signal processor 30 processes the electric signal converted by the microphone 21 such that changes in frequency characteristic of the sound caused by the mute unit 20 are cancelled. The signal processor 30 then outputs the processed signal.

The disclosed mute is a mouthpiece provided with a diaphragm (1) limiting the passage of the volume of air and of the sound, in front of which a sound expansion chamber (2) is mounted wherein the energy is dispersed, letting only the low amplitude waves pass through the diaphragm (1). The air volume in said expansion chamber (2) makes the reed (4) vibrate more easily, particularly for the low-pitched notes. Furthermore, the adjustment of the air volume within said expansion chamber (2) provides for the accuracy of the tones. This mute may be provided with a sound compression channel (3) arranged before the expansion chamber (2), which favours the passage through the diaphragm (1) of high frequencies to the detriment of low frequencies, thereby facilitating the octave skip. The mute is provided with air discharge channels (5-10) which are independent of the sound circuit.
