The present invention deals with perpetual wall, desk and pocket calendars and combined calendars using an assembly of weekdays unit and monthly unit or units set in parallel or concentric relation with each other, fastened in between guides on a baseboard, suspended on transparent films in a venetian blind pattern, strapped around transparent concentric drums, packed in a slide rule pattern or as concentric rings/discs rotating around a central pin, with solid or flexible cursors to identify the current day and its date and large displays of the current day and date by means of One Letter Alphabet (OLA) common variable symbols and coloured, luminous or physical display means that could be visually read at large distance and could be read by the blind through touching process.

The present invention deals with guided writing and variable displays, for signs, illustrations, etc., using a) guiding points at the main intersections of the lines of a common symbol representing a group of symbols, letters or figures, etc., and display means in between; b) holding means at the said guiding points and tie lines in between; c) grooves, raised tracks, magnetic tracks, stretched strings, etc., in between the said guiding points and fillers, coverings, mark­ings, etc., along the lines of the symbols to be dis­played; d) colorless markings or grooves as in (c) and pen markings over the selected symbols; e) bars, inking elements, etc., in between said guiding points, connected to various command centers to print or dis­play the required symbols; f) series of lights on electric wires in between said guiding points, activ­ated by various command centers; g) light sources located at the guiding points described in (a) and projecting lights in between, along the lines of the characters to be displayed.

A method for displaying on a display device (1) a monthly calendar annotated with exterior current day narrative notes (7) and embedded abbreviated notes. Notes related to a specific day can be prepared on a time independent basis by calling, and keying to, a dayly file (4) for the specific day. In addition, keying is used to distinguish between normal and special notes which are to be later displayed in abbreviated and narrative forms, respectively. Upon the occurrence ofthe specific day and the calling of a calendar screen, the notes are displayed along with an updated calendar. Special notes appear as narrative footnotes (7) and normal notes appear in abbreviated form with the day indications. In the absence of further day screen calling and keying, the footnotes changed on a daily basis, while the abbreviated notes remain fixed.

A calendar utilizes an existing relationship binding together all dates, past and future, in relation to any starting date. The constant relationship between days of the week, months of the year, and numbers enables the user of the calendar without resorting to calculation to find and display any other date not known in advance by simple manipulation of moving components of the calendar. For any given date as a reference point, one may determine, for example, the day of the week of any past or future date without prior knowledge or calculation over the full range of dates encompassed by the calendar.

In einer flachen rechteckigen Hülle 10 mit zwei rechteckigen Fenstern 18, 20 ist ein rechteckiger Schieber 16 geführt. Der Schieber 16 trägt Blöcke 26, 28 von Zahlenkolonnen für Tagesdaten. An electronic calendar device comprises an array of thirteen liquid crystal devices each carrying a four-numeral column of a conventional calendar. By selecting an appropriate seven consecutive liquid crystal devices for display, the correct calendar display for a particular month can be generated. The numerals 29, 30 and 31 are carried on separate liquid crystal devices and can be energised when required for a particular month. Logic circuitry is provided to enable the calendar device to run rapidly forward or backward to provide calendars for selected months in the future or in the past.
