According to the method for rastering half-tone images, grey values of the image are reproduced by modifying the structure density of a base raster structure selected according to the form. The attribution of the field of grey values of the half-tone image to the raster structural density reproducing said field of grey values may be fixed appropriately. In a phototechnical version of the method (Fig. 1), there is obtained a selected base raster structure (1) and from the latter enlarged raster structures are produced as negative films (9, 11). From the image to be rastered (13), there is produced, as negative films, a same number of extracts of tone values (20, 22), each of them reproducing a predetermined field of grey values of the half-tone image, fixed by means of the exposure time. The extracts of tone values (22, 20) are exposed on a support (24), with the raster structures (9, 11) of the series to which they are attributed. The support then reproduces the rastered image in a form such that the grey values portions determined by the extract of tone value are locally reproduced by the raster structural density attributed to them. There are a plurality of alternatives in the photographic technics and in the laser technics, implementing said method, which are appropriate for the rastering of half-tone images, for the production of half-tone blocks and for printing reproduction supports with images thus rastered.

PURPOSE:To eliminate a moire to be generated on a gravure screen, by using a pattern containing numbers of folded segments of lines having irregular lengths which are arrayed in a certain direction. CONSTITUTION:A prescribed starting line vector 4 is set, and a mobile vector which changes irregularly its length and direction within a prescribed range to the vector 4 is produced. Numbers of such mobile vectors are set continuous to each other to obtain a segment pattern 5 which is folded irregularly (e.g., average size of cell: 100mu; average time length: 100mu; standard deviation: 20mu; folding angle: average angle 0 deg. with direction 0 deg. of starting line vector and with standard deviation 20 deg.). These patterns 5 are arranged in a certain direction so as to secure a certain space for the starting vector. An array pattern thus obtained is used to the original pattern including (opaque) transparent segments of lines of a gravure screen.

PURPOSE:To eliminate a moire to be generated on a gravure screen, by using an irregular polygon pattern formed by shifting irregularly the position of each intersection of each segment of line forming an irregular polygon within a prescribed range, as an original pattern of (opaque) transparent segments of lines of the screen. CONSTITUTION:The intersections (A-I) of segments of lines forming an irregular polygon such as a rectangle (dotted lines) are shifted at random (e.g., horizontal and vertical displacement limited to + or -X/2 and + or -Y/2 respectively). The obtained points A'-F' are connected in correspondence to the original rectangle forming segments of lines. Thus a pattern (solid lines) is formed with an irregular rectangle. This irregular polygonal pattern is used to an original pattern of transparent or opaque segments of lines of a gravure screen. The screen causes no moire since the transparent or opaque segments of lines have an irregular change.

PURPOSE:To eliminate a moire to be generated on a gravure screen, by using a pattern including a combination of an irregularly folded lines and smooth curved lines or irregularly and curved smooth lines. CONSTITUTION:The intersections (e.g., A-F) of a pattern containing 2-dimensional regular squares adjacent to each other are shifted at random (e.g., average shift distance: about 1/4 length of a side of a square, standard deviation: about 1/8 length of a side of a square; shift direction: all angles around intersections). Then the obtained points A'-F' are connected in correspondence to the forming segments of lines of the original square to obtain a pattern containing folded lines. Using this pattern, a gravure screen is formed. Each segment of line of a pattern including irregular folded lines can be converted into a segment which is approximated with a smooth curved line.

PURPOSE:To eliminate the moires and the roughness for a gravure screen, by using a pattern that is obtained by giving a correction to a pattern containing irregular polygons including irregular folded lines arrayed horizontally and vertically so that the area of said irregular polygons is within a prescribed range. CONSTITUTION:The mobile vectors are produced at random starting at the end points of plural starting line vectors 4 which are arrayed with a certain space among them. Then the next mobile vectors are produced at random starting at the end points of the vectors 4. These operations are repeated to obtain a group of irregular folded lines 5. These groups of lines 5 are combined vertically and horizontally to obtain a pattern including irregular polygons. In order to limit the area of these polygons within a prescribed range, the segments of lines (thick solid line) is added to reduce the area and the segments of lines (dotted lines) connecting intersections are eliminated to increase the area respectively. The pattern thus obtained is used to form a gravure screen.
6 Screen to create a method and apparatus as well as the creation program JP2003043527 2003-02-21 JP3855013B2 2006-12-06
A method for creating a screen for expressing a continuous tone pattern. Cells (C) of one type constitutes the screen. Each cell is composed of a set of parameters including units (u) having the same function and arranged in different directions, one or more regions (a) in each unit (u), and an element (e) having a variable printing element area in each region (a). The method comprises the steps of inputting a preset value to each of the parameters and calculating definition information (definitioner) on variation of the screen by using the inputted preset value. Thus, a high-definition screen can be easily created.

PURPOSE:To eliminate a moire to be generated on a gravure screen, by forming a pattern with the (opaque) transparent segments of lines arrayed the segments of lines having irregular length and direction within a prescribed range, irregularly in a prescribed range. CONSTITUTION:The intersections A-F of a pattern (dotted lines) containing the 2-dimensional regular squares adjacent to each other are shifted at random (e.g., average shift distance: about 1/4 length of a side of a square; standard deviation: about 1/8 length of a side of a square; shift direction: all angles around intersections). The obtained points A'-F' are connected to each other in correspondence to the original regular square forming segments of lines (dolid lines) to obtain a pattern including irregular squares. Then the segments are irregularly produced with a 1/5l space within a l-14/5l range for examle (l: length of a side of the original regular square). For this segment of line, each angle 0 deg., + or -30 deg., + or -60 deg. is selected irregularly, and making the center of each segment pass through a new point after a shift at each angle. In such way, an original pattern is formed.

PURPOSE:To eliminate a moire pattern and to reduce the roughness for a gravure screen, by using a pattern including numbers of irregular folded lines having cut parts. CONSTITUTION:The intersections (e.g., A-F) of a pattern (dotted lines) of 2- dimensional regular squares adjacent to each other are shifted at random (average shift distance: about 1/4 length of a side of a square; standard deviation of said shift distance: about 1/8 length of a side of a square; shift direction: all angles around intersections). The obtained points A'-F' are connected (solid lines) with a relation equivalent to that between original intersections. Thus a pattern including irregular squares is obtained. Then the segments of lines connecting among intersections and having smaller length than a prescribed value (shown by dotted lines) are erased to obtain a pattern. Using this pattern, a gravure screen is formed.

A method of screening a continuous tone image into a halftone representation for a flexographic printing operation can compensate for characteristic printing problems in highlight areas by selectively placing non-printing dots or pixels proximate highlight dots. The non-printing dots or pixels raise the printing relief floor in the highlight areas providing additional support for marginally printable image features.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily manufacture a high quality level screen.
SOLUTION: In the screen for representing a continuous gradation pattern, cells C of one kind making up the screen are constituted of a group of parameters consisting of units (u) which work in the same way but are each arranged in a different direction, a region (a) which is divided into a whole single region itself or a plurality of regions in the units (u) and a single element (e) accompanied by a change in an image line area in the region (a). Thus the screen manufacturing method is characterized in that it has a step to enter a setting value to the individual parameters of the group of parameters and a step to calculate definition information (definitioner) on the change in the screen by the entered setting value.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
