A moire simulator comprises a transparent flat plate bearing a pattern (M) composed of grating patterns having equal grating constants and equal grating shapes, the plate being provided with means (S), such as an angle scale, for the measurement of in-plane rotation of the plate. In use, the moire simulator is superposed on an original and rotated thereon to a rotation angle with respect to the original at which the extent of moire pattern generation is the lowest. The rotation angle is read off using the angle scale and used to calculate the screen setting angle with will minimize moire pattern generation in the subsequent screening process. |

An apparatus, system and method for targeting an image formed on an imaging member. The imaging member includes an imaging sensitive layer formed thereon. The imaging member includes imaged and non-imaged areas. Light of a predetermined wavelength reflected from a target area of the imaging member is received. The light reflected from the target area is representative of an image formed on the imaging sensitiv layer using energy at approximately the predetermined wavelength. The predetermined wavelength is suitable to initiate crosslinking of the imaging sensitive layer.

The dot patterns which may be used to reduce dot gain and moiré effects in halftone images involve printing areas which have inwardly curved edges and variable elongation. Colored images having screens which use these patterns may be printed with the screens at 45° relative angular separations. Alternatively the dot patterns may be regarded as reversed variable oval patterns with varying elongation of the generally oval shaped non-printing areas. |

The invention falls within the sector of printing processes and uses a random half-tone screen system for producing the printing matrix for dry offset and flexographic printing. The process comprises the following steps for producing the printing matrix: digital acquisition, by means of scanning, of the image to be printed; modification of the colour curves; use of a random half-tone screen; printing of a positive film by means of a developer; production of a negative film using a half-tone screen in which the size of the individual dots is smaller than in the positive film; use of the negative film for producing the printing matrix.

The use of frequency-modulated or stochastic screening for lightening wet or waterless offset printing surfaces is disclosed. Films and plates which are used in such printing processes and which typically generate lighter printing surfaces by means of stochastic (or frequency-modulated) screening, are also disclosed.
