181 Lensless safety sunglasses US837053 1997-04-11 US5825452A 1998-10-20 Donald Spector
Lensless safety sunglasses formed of flexible synthetic plastic material die cut or otherwise contoured to define a soft frame having a pair of eye pieces and temple straps extending from opposite ends of the frame adapted to go around the head of the wearer to hold the frame, in the manner of a face mask, against the eyes of the wearer. The eye openings are created by tiny apertures forming a scrim which acts as a light-permeable screen to reduce the intensity of light passing through these openings, thereby preventing glare without however interfering with vision.
182 Electronic vision aid device US517830 1990-05-02 US5060062A 1991-10-22 Robert S. Dotson
A visual sensory aid system for the partially sighted, designed to be worn around the eyes in a manner similar to that of eyeglasses. Light incident to the image source is detected by receptors mounted on the front lens and processed by the electronic circuitry. The resulting signals, representative of the image, are transmitted to monitor areas on an interior lens that extends from beyond the periphery of one eye to beyond the periphery of the other. The right and left images displayed on the monitor areas are reversed at a high frequency in order to simulate a visual stereo effect for depth perception. Areas of the monitors corresponding to blind spots of the eye are electronically inactivated. A feedback system maintains the focal point of the eye in the optimum direction.
183 Sun screening display and advertising device US42037 1987-04-24 US4955709A 1990-09-11 Anton K. Smith
A sun-shielding type of eyeglasses having lenses made of an opaque material provided with a plurality of closely-spaced, small holes to permit vision by the wearer, while excluding a high percentage of external light and glare from reaching the eye of the wearer. The exterior surface of the lenses are suitable for the application of designs or advertising messages, while the interior surfaces are provided with a dark, matte finish to reduce reflection of light off of the skin of the wearer.
184 Reading spectacles US113819 1987-10-01 US4898459A 1990-02-06 Carl E. Eriksson
Reading spectacles are tested for acceptability by a user by providing each lens with a releasable opaque film having a small circular window aligned with the optical centre of the lens. Acceptable spectacles are determined by the optical centers of the lenses being sufficiently aligned with the optical centers of the eyes to permit reading through the restricted field of view afforded by the windows.
185 Optical device for pre-operative cataract patients US56269 1979-07-10 US4249803A 1981-02-10 William H. Byler
An improved optical device in combination with means for holding the device in position before the eye including an optical device formed of an opaque mask for mounting before the eye, a horizontal transparent area extending substantially across the mask centrally thereof, an array of discrete circular transparent areas on the mask, the array being disposed below the horizontal transparent area and each circular area having equal diameters of between 0.5 and 1.2 mm. is characterized by an increase in the total aperture of the transparent areas on those portions of the opaque mask where the eye-to-mask distance increases thereby permitting a greater field of vision while limiting the influx of light.
186 Optical device for pre-operative cataract patients US580318 1975-05-23 US4012129A 1977-03-15 William H. Byler
An optical device especially constructed for preoperative cataract patients comprising an opaque mask attached to spectacle frames or other means for mounting before the eyes. The mask includes a horizontally extending open ended slot providing a transparent area through which the patient's vision is unobstructed. The mask further includes an array of separate transparent areas disposed below the slotted opening. The size and positioning of these areas are interrelated with the slotted opening to provide an increased vertical field of vision while restricting the light striking the patient's eye to a minimum.

198 CORNEAL INLAY WITH NUTRIENT TRANSPORT STRUCTURES PCT/US2010045541 2010-08-13 WO2011020074A1 2011-02-17 CHRISTIE BRUCE; PETERSON EDWARD W; VAN DE POL CORINA
Corneal inlays and masks and methods of improving vision of a patient with corneal inlays and masks are provided. Masks with an aperture can improve the vision of a patient, such as by increasing the depth of focus of an eye of a patient. For example, a mask can have an annular portion with a relatively low visible light transmission surrounding a relatively high transmission central portion, such as a clear lens or aperture. This provides an annular mask with a small aperture for light to pass through to the retina to increase depth of focus. The mask may also include nutrient transport structures that provide nutrient flow through mask to prevent nutrient depletion. These nutrient transport structures can be configured to concentrate nutrient transmission near a center region of the mask to provide more nutrient flow near the center region.
199 MASK CONFIGURED TO MAINTAIN NUTRIENT TRANSPORT WITHOUT PRODUCING VISIBLE DIFFRACTION PATTERNS PCT/US2004016914 2004-05-28 WO2004105588A3 2005-06-09 CHRISTIE BRUCE ARTHUR; SILVESTRINI THOMAS A; HAHNEN KEVIN F; KNOPP CARL F
A mask (4200) configured to be implanted in a cornea of a patient to increase the depth of focus of the patient includes an anterior surface, a posterior surface, and a plurality of holes(4220). The anterior surface is configured to reside adjacent a first corneal layer. The posterior surface is configured to reside adjacent a second corneal layer. The plurality of holes extends at least partially between the anterior surface and the posterior surface. The holes of the plurality of holes are configured to substantially eliminate visible diffraction patterns.
