A firearm can have a bolt having a plurality of locking lugs that are configured to have a shear area that is at least approximately 1.3 times that of a standard M16/M4. A piston can be formed on the bolt and can have a plurality of rings that are configured to cooperate with the piston to mitigate gas leakage past the piston. Each of the rings can have a key formed thereon and a gap formed therein such that the gap of one ring is configured to receive at least a portion of the key of another ring. The bolt carrier can have a double cut cam.

A muzzle brake (1) of a weapon or a weapons system, in particular for small- and medium-calibre weapons, that has a reduced outer signature with respect to heat and/or propellant gas emissions is proposed. For this purpose, the propellant gas emerging from the barrel (3) is diverted to the gas outlet openings (8, 10) of the muzzle brake (1) in order to impinge on them - to absorb the recoil - and is then made to pass further to the rear, and thereby cooled in a device (12).

In a firearm, for example a quick fire weapon (10), the rear end (22) of the barrel ends at the front end (24) of the path of movement of a movably guided breech block inside the breech body (12) and is directly or indirectly secured at its outer side to the breech body (12) by means of a one-piece or multiple-piece adapter (14). The section of the inside of the breech body directly adjacent to the rear end (22) of the barrel communicates with the environing air by at least one gas channel (26, 20; 26', 20) which extends forwards. A pressurized gas which accumulates inside the breech body (12) in the case of certain rare disturbances is thus deviated in time, i.e. before damages are caused. Preferably the pressurized gas is introduced into the inside (28) of a handguard (18) and escapes outwards through its cooling holes (20). Additional radial safety openings (30) acts as further 'safety valves'.

12 AN ANNULAR PISTON SYSTEM FOR RIFLES EP12868334.9 2012-11-23 EP2783181A2 2014-10-01 Zheng, Jing
An annular piston system for a firearm comprises a barrel, a gas block assembly, a piston, and a spring. The barrel has multiple sections lengthwise, one of the sections having at least one gas port hole to vent gas from the barrel. The gas block assembly is disposed annularly around the barrel and is adjustable to control an amount of gas flowing out of the barrel through the at least one gas port hole. The piston is disposed annularly around the barrel and can move longitudinally along the barrel in response to being pushed by the gas flowing out of the barrel. The spring is disposed annularly around the third section of the barrel and coupled to the piston. The spring limits a distance that the piston can move longitudinally along the barrel when the piston is pushed to move by the gas flowing out of the barrel.

A rifle having a receiver with an integral hand guard and a barrel. The barrel is connected to the receiver. The hand guard extends over and surrounds the barrel. A removable hand guard is attached to the receiver by an attachment that stably holds the removable hand guard to the receiver. The attachment is arranged for allowing detachment and removal of the removable hand guard from the receiver without removal of fasteners.
14 HIGH PERFORMANCE GUN BARREL EP94903323.0 1993-11-30 EP0728289A1 1996-08-28 ROGERS, ernest
A barrel (10) has an inner tube (12) with cartridge chamber (28) at one end and a muzzle (16) at the other. An outer tube (56) is secured to and surrounds said inner tube to form a propellant chamber (60) therewith. The barrel guides projectiles such as bullets (32) as they are accelerated by a propellant. The inner tube has a wall with an aperture (62) formed therein and spaced inwardly from said muzzle. Propellant gasses pass through the aperture into said propellant chamber. A plurality of ribs (52) also extend between the inner and outer tubes. A coolant may also be injected into the propellant chamber to escape through the muzzle with the propellant after the projectile exits the muzzle.
