Drying coal having undesirably high moisture content is accomplished by heating the particulate coal in an oil slurry contained in a pressurized drying zone to sufficient temperature to evaporate the moisture. A major portion of the heat required in the drying zone is provided by compressing the hot steam evolved from the coal drying step and condensing it in a heat exchanger passage in the drying zone. The resulting dried coal-oil slurry liquid is then passed on to further processing such as coal hydrogenation or liquefaction steps. |

Condensation which occurs in a bed of ore on a traveling grate for sintering, or a bed of agglomerates, such as pellets, on a traveling grate in the process of heat-hardening them, which occurs when drying and preheating air first flows through the bed is reduced if not eliminated by conserving heat contained in the fines or imparted to the fines during their preparation, such as grinding, or from the drying of filter cake comprised of such fines, and even further augmenting this heat to increase the temperature of the fines or make up for loss which occurs before the fines or agglomerates are loaded onto the grate whereby the charge on the grate is already warm before the current of drying air flows through it.

A process for drying raw agricultural products for feed purposes. The raw product is first pulped into a raw and wet pulped product which is thereafter moved into a pulp box for distribution onto a roller drier. The product is heated while in the pulp box, and then distributed onto the roller drier and dried while in contact therewith. The dried product is then removed from the roller drier and is thereafter broken into flakes.

Procedure for drying cellulose in a plant consisting of a web dryer, combined with a parallel-working flash dryer in which disintegrated cellulose is caused to pass through a wet stage and through a series of dryer stages and finally taken to a bale press in which procedure the outgoing hot wet air from the web dryer is used for preheating replacement air and also is used for heating ventilation air which partly is discharged into the atmosphere and partly is conducted away for use in the flash dryer for heating the drying air for the various drying stages of said flash dryer.

A system for automatic control of the processes of boiling, vacuum cooling, draining a condensate and dehydration of foodstuffs, preferably meat and fish in a chamber employed for treating the foodstuffs, comprises a control unit for sending control signals during time intervals, a circuit for prescribing the program of vacuum cooling and dehydration connected to the control unit, a unit for controlling the temperature of boiling the food stuffs connected to the control unit, an actuating mechanism controlled by the control unit and connecting the chamber with the atmosphere, an actuating mechanism for draining off condensate from the chamber controlled by the control unit and an actuating mechanism for controlling the temperature connected to the temperature control unit. The system is fully automatic and utilizes further control means for accomplishing the above-said function.
