13 Self-igniting burners US3681002D 1969-10-20 US3681002A 1972-08-01 WELLER ESHER R; STAATS WILLIAM R; ROSENBERG ROBERT B
A self-igniting gas burner which includes, generally, an oxidation catalyst which is supported by means of a gas-permeable catalyst support plate. A mixture of gaseous fuel is supplied to and permeates through the catalyst support plate. In doing so, the gaseous fuel is oxidized to cause combustion. The combustion of the gaseous fuel heats the catalyst support plate which then radiates heat to a load. The hot products of reaction also pass through the catalyst support plate, to heat the load.

PURPOSE: To reduce the size of a device for recombining hydrogen with oxygen as a whole by housing a catalyst main body in a tube elongated in the vertical direction and installing a closing plug which is opened in connection with the pressure and/or temperature to the end face of the tube. CONSTITUTION: A catalyst main body 2 is fixed to the projecting section 3 of the internal surface of a tube 1 and the section 3 is constituted so as to make the heat transfer between the main body 2 and tube 1 as small as possible. A closing plug 14 which is opened depending upon the temperature is installed to the end face of the tube 1. Since the end face is provided with bimetal conditions 15 elongated in parallel with each other in four segments and the conditions 15 expand outward as the temperature rises, a gas flow which is fanned when a gas is heated is generated in the tube 1. When a damage occurs, the plug 14 is opened by a generated high pressure and high temperature. As a result, the medium contained in a containment enters the tube 1. The hydrogen existing in the medium is catalytically recombined with simultaneously existing oxygen into water within the extend of the main body 2. The main body 2 is heated and a gas flow is generated in the direction shown by the arrow 16.
16 Pit bottom steam generating device JP14745984 1984-07-18 JPS6127421A 1986-02-06 YOSHIHARA AKIYO; SHINYA KENJI
PURPOSE:To contrive to improve the durability and reliability of ignition by a method wherein an inflamable mixed gas is passed through an oxidative catalyst, a high temperatur burning gas is produced, then the gas is utilized as an igniting source for a fuel. CONSTITUTION:An oxidative catalyst 30 is fixed in the vicinity of a fuel nozzle 40. An air from an air piping 20 and a methane from a methane piping 10 are supplied for the oxidative catalyst 30, then a methane-air mixed gas is passed through the catalyst. The methane-air mixed gas burns and reacts in the catalyst, produces reaction heat, then a high temperature burning gas is jetted through a catalyst outlet, thereby, a fuel jetted through the fuel nozzle 40 can be ignited by the high temperature gas as an igniting source. In case of te methane-air mixed gas, for instance, by utilizing a Pb-Pt family catalyst, the burning efficiency of the methane in the catalyst can be achieved up to 100%. At this time, the burning gas temperature is about 1,300 deg.C at the catalyst outlet, the temperature is enough for the igniting source of the fuel.
