In a method for driving of a pile (2), where the pile has a top side and side faces extending substantially perpendicularly to the top side, a hammer assembly is held firmly in position in relation to the longitudinal axis of the pile and drives the pile into the ground by hammering on the top of the pile. According to the invention the hammering action is exerted within a defined area of the pile top, not extending to the edges of the pile, while the edge zones are held free of the hammering action. This may be carried out by means of a ram head (110) for fixation of the hammer assembly in relation to the pile, said ram head having a bottom part provided for transmitting the impact impulse to an intermediate plate or impact piece (100) which, in turn, transmits the impulse to the pile top, said bottom part of the ram head being provided with a projecting collar (126) embracing the impact piece to hold it within a defined area not extending to the edges of the pile top.

87 Improvements in pile driving machines EP81850061 1981-04-03 EP0038311A3 1981-11-25 Johansson, John Ragnar

A device in pile driving machines including a drop hammer (3) which drives down piles into the ground.

The problem of preventing crushing and breaking damages to the piles is solved in accordance with the invention in that the drop hammer (3) consists of two .or several superposed weight segments (10) arranged, against the action of spring members (11), to be drawn together as a result of their velocity energy when hitting the pile. The velocity energy is adjustable by control of the bias of the spring members (11) with the aid of connecting rods (14) passing through the weight segments (10).

A piling device 10 including a support frame 12 and a footing 20 for mounting the frame 12. A mechanism 22 for gripping a pile P and a mechanism 26 for driving the pile P into the ground is provided. Each of the mechanisms 22 and 26 can be connected to and supported by the frame 12, and a pivotal connection can be made. The frame 12 can include an opening 38, 40 for removing the device from around the pile P while the footing 20 can enable movement of the device 10.
90 Divisible pile sleeve EP03257523.5 2003-11-28 EP1433903A1 2004-06-30 Mohr, Rainer

The invention relates to a pile driving device for driving in piles, with an axially-guided impact body movable in a hammer housing, an impact hood and a pile sleeve. So that the pile driving device can be transported by land without requiring surveys and preparation, the pile sleeve comprise two or more parts, with the pile sleeve being divided into radial or circular concentric partitions.

93 Piling hammer EP00307356.6 2000-08-25 EP1085130A3 2002-10-23 Bullivant, Roger Arthur

A piling hammer 10 has an anvil member 12 which, in use, is placed against a pile 14. A weight 16 is reciprocated to impact repeatedly on the anvil 12, to create piling forces. Various arrangements are made to reduce the noise created by the hammer. First, impacts between the weight 16 and anvil 12 take place within a chamber 20, which is substantially wholly enclosed. Cushioning is provided, e.g. at 68. The chamber 20 is formed to minimise vibration at an audible frequency, such as by providing thick walls. The mass of the anvil 12 is preferably at least one eighth of the mass of the weight 16.

95 Positioning assembly for a ram head EP98610031.1 1998-08-31 EP0984105A1 2000-03-08 Rasmussen, Finn

A positioning assembly (106) for a ram head (336) has a top surface for receiving impact pulses produced by a ram mechanism and a bottom surface for transmitting said impact pulses to a pile (102) with the purpose of driving said pile (102) into the ground or into a similar surface. The assembly comprises:

a first part and a second part. The first part defines an inner space for receiving said ram head (336) and exposing said top and bottom surfaces thereof and allowing said ram head (336) to transmit said impact pulses from said ram mechanism to said pile (102).The first part further has blocking means (342) for preventing said ram head (336) from being separated from said first part, and is fixatable to said ram mechanism.

The second part (330) is journalled rotatably relative to the first part round an axis of rotation, which is substantially coinciding with the longitudinal axes of said ram head (336) and of said pile (102).

The second part (330) further has fixation means for fixating said pile (102) in a specific and fixed rotational relationship relative to said second part (330). The assembly further comprises motor-drive means (300) co-operating with the first and second parts and has a first operational mode and a second operational mode.

The motor-drive means (300) generates in the first operational mode a rotational motion of said second part (330) relative to said first part round said axis of rotation, and generates in said second operational mode a fixation of said second part (330) relative to said first part preventing said second part from rotating relative to said first part round said axis of rotation.
