Sewing machine includes a needle bar that is vertically moved to perform a sewing operation, a fabric holder supported on the needle bar in such a manner that the fabric holder is vertically movable relative to the needle bar, and an urging member for normally urging downward the fabric holder on the needle bar. The sewing machine further includes a position restricting member for mechanically restricting a position of the fabric holder to prevent unwanted upward movement of the fabric holder having reached a lower dead point along with the vertical movement of the needle bar. |

Disclosed is a sewing machine having a pattern selecting device including a pattern selecting dial and an electronic indicator for indicating a pattern selected by the pattern selecting device. More particularly, the pattern selecting device includes a mode switch 2 which is rotated by a pattern selecting dial 5 and has a plurality of switches Sw arranged in coaxial circles, a plurality of projections 2c arranged in coaxial circles, and an electronic indicator 10. A pattern is optionally selected by the projections 2c and switches Sw which are turned on in optional combination by rotation of the mode switch 2, and the selected pattern is indicated at the electronic indicator 10. |

A presser unit for a bar tacking sewing machine comprises four separate clamp feet 15, 16, 17 and 18 which conform in outer appearance to the U-shaped stitches I--I, II--II and III--III to be formed at the tip end of the waist band portions of pants and a pressing mechanism 60 for elastically press each clamp feet 15, 16, 17 and 18 against a workpiece A with a given pressure thereby to elastically press the workpiece A. As a result, it is possible to provide the presser unit for a bar tacking sewing machine which can perform sewing with improved efficiency and high quality without generating discontinuous stitches and the breakage of a needle, since the tip ends of the waist band portions of pants can be sewn in U shape continuously and easily irrespective of the longitudinal and lateral variation of thickness of the workpiece A and moreover without adjusting a pressure mechanism by applying four separate clamp feet to a portion to be sewn of the workpiece A in such a way as to fit the shape and thickness thereof. |

A switching device is provided for a sewing machine for switching operation of the sewing machine from a zigzag stitching to embroidering or vice versa. The switching device comprises a rotatable disc fixedly mounted on an output shaft of a stepping motor and a sliding member that movably connects one end of a transmission rod via a pin, the other end of which is connected to a needle bar supporter or a fabric feed device, with the rotatable disc so that the one end of the transmission rod is movable between a first position on the rotatable disc which coincides with the center of rotation of the rotatable disc, and a second position on the rotatable disc which is spaced apart from the center of rotation of the rotatable disc. The switching device further comprises a stopper that engages a stub projecting from the transmission rod, in the first position of the one end of the transmission rod on the rotatable disc, and a mechanism for converting rotational movement of the stepping motor output shaft to movement of an embroidering frame in an X- or a Y-directions, dependent on whether the other end of the transmission rod is connected to the needle bar supporter or the fabric feed device, respectively, when the stopper engages the stub. |

An automatic machine for zig-zag stitching of tubular elements, in particular for stitching trimmings on mocassin type footwear and for fixing transversal reinforcing bands to the vamp of the footwear, where the cylinder containing the "crochet" is circular-sectioned and the work plane on which to lay the material to be stitched is curved with its curve center on the axis of the cylinder and the work plane is supported by a collar co-axial with and external to the cylinder, and longitudinally mobile and rotarily coaxial with respect to said cylinder. The machine also includes the pressure foot which grips the material to be stitched tautly to said work plane, the pressure foot being supported by a guide line fixed to said collar and arranged above the work plane. |
