A method and system for softening a high-density leather finished roll good and other stiff high density roll goods may include adjusting a first horizontal distance between a first impact grid and a first tunnel opening and adjusting a second horizontal distance between a second impact grid and a second tunnel opening based on the stiffness of the roll good. The method also may include introducing the roll good in a first direction through the air tunnel until the roll good hits the second impact grid, and introducing the roll good in an opposite direction through the air tunnel until the roll good hits the first impact grid. The method may further include passing the roll good through a cooling chamber. |

A method of, and apparatus for, flexibilizing or softening leather or like materials wherein opposite marginal regions or lines of at least one area section of the piece of material to be worked and extending at least partially over such piece of material are moved periodically in relation to each other. This relative movement comprises or consists of a movement component directed parallel to the plane of said piece of material. This can be achieved by means of at least two tools moved appropriately in relation to each other and acting on the material by imposing an alternating deformation thereon comprising a movement component parallel to the plane of the piece of material. |

This invention relates to machines for softening leather, commonly referred to as staking machines, of the type in which leather to be staked is passed between opposed interengageable processing elements the distance between which is periodically increased and decreased by relative movement of the processing elements. The leather is staked by the action of the processing elements as they approach their minimum distance apart. The construction of the machine is such that the processing elements both execute a periodic motion around closed paths e.g. circular paths. The movements of the two processing elements around their closed paths are mechanically synchronized. Thus, the leather is processed and is simultaneously transported by the movement of the processing elements. |

A machine for operating on an article of leather or skin in which the article is supported on a plate and during the working operation the article is pressed by rollers against the plate while a pair of tools grip the article and moves therealong from the center of the article to its edges. The tools are carried on respective upper and lower endless chains driven at the same speed, one clockwise the other counterclockwise. When the tools leave the article after working a narrow band thereof, a support of the rollers is rotated and the rollers roll on the article whereafter the support is reversed and returned to its initial position, the rollers being then locked for entraining the article therewith to present a new band thereof to be worked by the tools.
