A personal cleansing implement (10) is made from a hydrophobic piece of tubular scrim (20). The piece of tubular scrim is gathered along a longitudinal axis thereof to form circumferential pleats (12). The circumferential pleats (12) are permanently fixed in a gathered condition by bonding together a top surface (16) and a bottom surface of them adjacent to their perimeter while they are maintained in the gathered condition. The tubular scrim (20) has properties which result in a consumer preferred softness in the personnal cleansing implement (20). The properties of the tubular scrim (20) comprise a node (24) width ranging from 0.18 mm to 0.56 mm; a strand (22) length ranging from 1.78 mm to 3.68 mm; and a repeat unit (26) average weight ranging from 1.0 x 10-4 gm to 3.4 x 10-4 gm. The tubular scrim (20) is preferably made substantially of low density polyethylene.
142 METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR CLEANSING THE SKIN EP95911925 1995-02-24 EP0748242A4 1998-11-18 SKEWES SUSAN; RADDATZ RUSSELL E
This invention is a kit (10) containing a plurality of sheets (12) impregnated with a hydrating, non-ionic cleanser in a microwave heatable container (10) for use in bathing a patient or for personal bathing. The cleanser preferably is a mixture of di-ionized water, at least one non-ionic surfactant, a humectant and/or a hydrating emollient, and vitamin E that is intended to remain on the skin rather than be rinsed. The solution may also contain a preservative such as biguanide or be sterilized. In use, the kit (10) is heated and then each sheet or mitten is applied to a separate portion of the body, to limit the risk of cross contamination. The cleanser evaporates quickly in air, leaving the skin clean, soft, soothed, nourished and protected.
143 DUAL TEXTURED IMPLEMENT FOR PERSONAL CLEANSING AND METHOD OF CONSTRUCTION EP95907371.9 1995-01-12 EP0751733B1 1998-03-25 GIRARDOT, Richard Michael; GROSGOGEAT, Eric Jean; BAUSCH, Richard Gottfried
A personal cleansing implement comprises a tubular piece of diamond-mesh scrim, which is stretched to expand the diamond mesh, gathered to form circumferential pleats, heat set in an expanded and pleated condition, and folded into a stack of layers to form a resilient batt (12). A softer layer of hydrophobic knitted material (20) lies against the top surface of the batt with its outer edge (24) wrapped around the perimeter (18) of the batt and against the bottom surface of the batt. The softer knitted layer is connected to the batt by a connecting means at the outer edge to form a dual textured cleansing implement made of hydrophobic materials and having high open area to enhance rinsing and drying. Thread stitching or thermobonding are the preferred connecting means. A tether loop (30) is connected to the implement for hanging it from a support during drying. The softer knitted layer preferably has at least one aperture therethrough.
144 PERSONAL CLEANSING IMPLEMENT USING KNITTED TUBING AND METHOD OF CONSTRUCTION EP96903471.0 1996-01-05 EP0804118A1 1997-11-05 BENGE, William, Dennis
A personal cleansing implement (34) comprises a substantially rectangular hydrophobic batt (26). The batt (26) is a piece of knitted tubing (10) made from extruded linear low density polyethylene monofilaments knitted into a tube (10) on a knitting machine having a setting ranging from 32 to 64 needles per machine diameter. The monofilaments have substantially circular cross sections in the range of 0.003 inches to 0.015 inches diameter. The piece of knitted tubing (10) also has a longitudinal axis with about 6 to about 9 stitches per inch, as typically measured along its longitudinal axis. Furthermore, the piece of knitted tubing (10) is inverted upon itself at least once along its longitudinal axis to form a plurality of concentric layers of tubing, which are then substantially flattened to form the batt (36). Each of the layers has a similar length and substantially overlaps the other layers. The batt (26) has a top surface (28), a bottom surface (30), and two open ends (22, 24). The top and bottom surfaces (26, 28) are bonded together at the two open ends (22, 24) by a bonding means to maintain the implement (34) substantially flattened. However, the batt (26) retains sufficient loft to function as a personal cleansing implement (34).
