Then, the temperatures of the materials 3 to be treated and the inside wall surface are detected with a temp. detector 4 and a temp. detector 5 provided on the inside surface side of the tank wall respectively, and are transferred to temp. setting instruments 6, 7. These setting instruments have the upper and lower limit temp. set values respectively. The operation of the heating device 2 is stopped at the upper limit temp. set value T 1 of the setting instrument 7 and the operation as mentioned above is performed at the lower limit temp. set value T 2 of the setting instrument 7 until the temp. of the materials 3 to be treated reaches the upper limit temp. set value t 1 of the setting instrument 6. Then, when the temp. of the materials 3 to be treated rises to or above the set value t 1, the operation of the heating device 2 is stopped irrespective of any signals from the setting instrument 7 until this temp. reaches the lower limit temp. set value t 2 of the setting instrument 6. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heating apparatus which can efficiently heat mown grass with small amount of steam so that harmful seeds contained in the mown grass is made impossible to germinate, has a simple structure and is free from the fear of blockage. SOLUTION: In the heating apparatus, the discharge port 2d of a screw feeder 2 having an ascending slope inclined from a charging port 2c for the mown grass A is connected to the supply port 1a of a heating machine 1 heating the mown grass A to be supplied from the supply port 1a in the upper part to be freely inclined while transporting the mown grass to the discharge port 1c in the lower part, the ascending slope of the screw feeder 2 is adjusted on the basis of the quantity of the steam detected in the discharge port 1c of the heating machine 1 and the charge port 2c of the screw feeder 2 to give discharge resistance of the steam from the supply port 1a to the screw feeder 2 having the ascending slope which is connected to the supply port 1a of the heating machine 1 to control the discharge resistance by the adjustment of the ascending slope of the screw feeder 2. As a result, the useless discharge of the steam and the flow-in of the air are prevented and the mown grass is efficiently heated with the small amount the steam with a simple structure without occurrence of the fear of the blockage.
