86 NECK, SPINE, AND SPINAL CORD SUPPORT DEVICE FOR NEWBORN BABY AND INFANT, AND BLANKET ASSEMBLY FOR SAME EP14779234.5 2014-03-04 EP2967160B1 2018-09-26 Paperno, Steven
A blanket assembly for swaddling an infant (e.g., newborn baby) includes a blanket body defining a pocket between an upper layer and a lower layer of the body at one end of the blanket body, the pocket accessible via an opening selectively closeable to seal the pocket. A neck, spine and spinal cord support device of a semi-rigid material is removably insertable in the pocket of the blanket body and secured within the blanket by the pocket so as to maintain the support device in a substantially fixed position within the blanket body. The support device supports the head, neck, spine and spinal cord of a newborn baby or infant when the infant is laid on the blanket body in a supine position and wrapped in the blanket body, so as to inhibit injury to the infant's head, neck, spine and spinal cord while carried by a person.

88 PHOTOTHERAPY BLANKET TEMPERATURE DETERMINATION EP15766603.3 2015-07-27 EP3174599A1 2017-06-07 VAN ABEELEN, Frank Anton
Systems and methods for determining one or more temperatures within a phototherapy blanket use or include one or more temperature sensors and a set of light sources to determine a temperature of a subject undergoing phototherapy within the phototherapy blanket and estimate a core temperature of the subject based on, at least, the temperature. The phototherapy blanket may include a thicker region having a higher thermal insulation than one or more other regions of the phototherapy blanket. By virtue of measuring the temperature at or near the thicker region, the uncertainty in the relation between a temperature and the subject's core temperature may be reduced, for more accurate temperature determination within the phototherapy blanket.

The present invention relates to a thermal shield 1 for at least partly surrounding a newborn infant by the shield 1 to protect it from undesired cooling or heating. The shield 1 comprises a first layer 3 and a second layer 4 both of a transparent material, which layers 3,4 are joined so that there is at least one air containing pocket 5 between the layers 3,4. When the thermal shield 1 is in use, the mutual arrangement of the first and second layers 3,4 allows the at least one pocket to be deformable to an amount necessary for establishment of acoustic contact between the skin of the infant 10 and an acoustic transducer 11 placed on an outer surface of the second layer 4. In some embodiments of the thermal shield, the at least one air containg pocket 5 is air tight, and acoustic contact can be established over an area of at least 1 cm 2. In other embodiments, there is at least one open passage 13 from the surroundings and into each of the at least one air pocket 5 between the first and second layers 3,4, and the compliance of the first layer 3 is higher than the complicance of the second layer 4 so that when an infant is placed in the shield 1, the first layer 3 clings around the infant while the second layer 4 deforms to a lesser extent than the first layer 3 so that air from the surroundings flows into the at least one air pocket 5 via the open passage 13.

The buttock support portion is formed into a curved concave shape beneath the neck-supporting curved portion to support the buttocks of the infant. A knee supporting curved portion protrudes from beneath the buttock support portion to support the rear part of the knee of the infant. The leg support portion is formed beneath the knee-supporting curved portion to support the leg of the infant. The buttock support portion has, at both upper edges thereof, gently formed recesses. The above-described nursing cushion of the present invention has curved concaves fitted to the body structures of infants to enable infants to maintain comfort and stable postures during nursing.
