The two ends of the strip are sewn to the body a of the collar, as shown in Fig. 2, the narrow space between the ends forming the button-hole.

Collars, linen and like.-A double collar is provided with a tab A secured at one end a, within the fold, to the outer face of the collar band, the other end projecting for some distance beyond the end of the band. When the collar is put on and fastened in the usual manner, the free end of the tab A, which may be provided with a buttonhole to engage a button b within the fold, is inserted in the fold to cover the stud and the superposed ends of the collar band. The tab A may be adapted to receive a stiffener or may be ornamented to serve as an imitation neck-tie.

Clips, pivoted jaw.-A clasp particularly for use as a collar fastener comprises a base-plate 4, Figs. 1 and 6, having a stud 6 and a hinged clamping-jaw 8 provided with an extension or tail-piece 9. A member 1, Fig. 5, having a slot 2 and a spring tongue 3, slides in guides 5 on the base 4 with the stud 6 projecting through the slot 2. As the member 1 is moved up or down by means of a finger piece 13, the spring tongue 3 bears against the extension 9 or the jaw 8 to open or close the jaw. The stud 6 is engaged in the shirt band and the collar ends are placed between the base 4 and the clamping-jaw 8, which are both provided with knobs 12 to prevent the ends from slipping

Neck - tie retainers; studs. - A device for clamping the ends of a collar together, for keeping the collar in position and, if desired, for attaching a neck - tie thereto, comprises a spring clip 1 provided with roughened jaws 5, 6 which grip the collar-ends 3, 4, a stud 2 being integral with the clip for attaching the collar to the neck of the shirt. Another stud 7 may be provided for attaching the necktie. The stud 2 may be a folding one.

A socket f on the other part is sprung over the head of the stud, which, having been previously threaded through the buttonhole or button-holes of the shirt, thus secures all the fastenable elements together. A stud and socket b without an eyelet may be similarly used at the back of the collar.
