813,894. Electrostatic precipitation. FAIRWEATHER, H. G. C. (Svenska Flaktfabriken A. B.). Sept. 30, 1957, No. 30542/57. Class 39(1). The plane collecting-electrodes of an electrostatic precipitator are placed parallel to the gas flow, the trailing edge 16 of each electrode being bent, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, to form a semi-circular baffle and the leading edge 15 preferably being of tubular cross section, thereby imparting rigidity to the structure. Each electrode 14 is supported by a hook 34 attached to its upper edge, and a tab 35 fixed to the lower edge fits into slots in a shock bar 26, Fig. 4, spacing being maintained by a pin 36 and studs 28 which also serve to vibrate electrodes 14 when a hammer 25 strikes the shock bar. Rows of electrodes are rapped in succession by a series of hammers 25 at different circumferential positions on a shaft 21. Fig. 7 shows the cross section of a collecting electrode referred to as being of known construction. |

527,122. Printing-surfaces. WILLIAMS, W. P. (Dayton Type. Inc.). March 31. 1939, No. 10170. [Class 100 (ii)] A compressible spacer or quad for justifying type consist of a metal block having its side faces hollowed out, as shown in plan. in Fig. 3, and having a recess S, Figs. 1 and 2, in the top. so as to provide spaces into which the metal can flow when the quad is compressed. The web 3 connecting the flat end surfaces 2, which bear against the type, is further reduced in thickness by recesses 7. The ends of the quad may have notches 2a for guidance in type setting. |

178,065. Hancock, H. H. April 7, 1921, [Convention date]. Furniture.-In extensible furniture of the type comprising two counterpart, members, means is provided for connecting the members inseparably so that they can be extended to substantially the combined length of the members without danger of longitudinal or transverse separation. Each member consists of a body-portion 10, 11 containing a groove 16 and provided with a tongue 12 which slides within the groove of the other member. Separation of the members is prevented by a groove 18 in the lower surface of each tongue, which is closed at the outer end and is engaged by a pin 19 or the like on the body portion of the other member. |

Leads and rules. - In order to facilitate the insertion of rules, leads, &c. into formes and the composition of tabular matter, the quads or other spacing-elements 11 are tapered on all sides either at one or both ends. The ends 12 are pyramidal, conical, or a combination of these, and may be truncated so that the rule or lead can be inserted in the V-shaped groove between. |

An improved corrosion-resistant magnetic influence minesweeping cable is provided. The cable produces a magnetic field that simulates a ship's magnetic signature as the ship passes through the sea. It has an outer anode conductor made of titanium-clad copper with mixed metal oxide at its aft end, an outer cathode conductor made of nickel-clad copper at its forward end, an inner conductor made of aluminum that runs the length of the cable, and a steel core strength member that also runs the length of the cable. The outer anode conductor is in electrical contact with the inner conductor. The outer cathode conductor is insulated from the inner conductor. The outer cathode conductor and the inner conductor can be connected to an electrical power source onboard a towing vessel. |

A mine-removing apparatus to be drawn behind a mine-sweeping boat and comprising a pulling cable pulling a sound generator for igniting acoustic mines, and electrode-carrying floating cables or an electrically-conductive floating cable loop for igniting magnetic mines, wherein said pulling cable and said floating cables extend in the region close to the boat as a common strand permitting limited longitudinal displacement of said cables relative to each other, said pulling cable extends beyond the trailing end of said floating cables, and all cables can be wound on and off a single winch on the boat stern. |
