CONSTITUTION: In treatment of waste water by an activated sludge method, a flocculation sedimentation method, a flocculation floating method, or the like, the waste water is adjusted to a pH value fit to the treatment. Waste water charged into pH adjusting vessel 10 is fed to pH detecting electrode part 16' outside vessel 10 with pump 12 to detect the pH value, and it is returned to vessel 10 to form a circulating system. The detected pH value is sent to indicator 18, and according to a response from indicator 18 magnet valve 22 opens to feed a pH adjusting soln. from tank 20 into vessel 10, thus adjusting the waste water to a desired pH value. Since the speed of the waste water flowing to part 16' is high, no contaminants attach to the outside of the electrode. The electrode is not dipped in waste water, so the insulating property is not deteriorated, and waste water is treated stably.
