Due to this heat exchange, vapor is generated from the sea water. This vapor is used for preheating sea water in a preheater 8, and carried to the second evaporator II for heat exchange with a condensed brine. In summer much solar energy is collected, so the temperature difference between the last cooler 2 and the horizontal heat pipe group 4 of the distillator 1 is kept great, resulting in the production of a larger amount of fresh water. In winter little energy is collected, so the distillator cunsumes an energy corresponding to the collected little energy. Thus, the distillator is operated continuously day and night, and fresh water can be produced at a high efficiency.
