CONSTITUTION: A detecting circuit 7 consists of an amorphous silicon solar battery 8 as a photodetector which is provided near a fluorescent tube 3 and generates the detection voltage corresponding to the light quantity thereof and an IC 9 for amplification which amplifies the detection voltage from the battery 8. The detection voltage from the battery 8 inputted to a terminal pin 9a of this IC 9 is amplified by 1st, 2nd amplifier sections 10, 11 and is then outputted from a terminal pin 9b. This voltage is supplied to a light control terminal 2c of an inverter circuit 2. The light quantity of the fluorescent tube 3 which is lighted to emit light by receiving the high-voltage pulses from the output terminals 2b, 2b' of the circuit 2 is, therefore, set arbitrarily by a volume control 6 for light control. The detection voltage is supplied to the light control terminal 2c and the high-voltage pulse width outputted from the inverter circuit 2 is automatically controlled by the light control circuit 5 so as to attain the set light quantity when this light quantity is changed by a change in ambient temp.
