CONSTITUTION: Ethylene oxide is prepared by the catalytic oxidation of ethylene with molecular oxygen. In the above process, a silica-alumina containing 10W 80wt%, preferably 30W75wt% of silica, having a spherical, tablet or cylindrical form, etc., and calcined at 1,200W1,500°C is used as a filler for the reactor. Especially, a filler having low porosity and free from acidity is preferable for the above filler, and it can be prepared easily by properly selecting the composition and the calcining condition. The filler can be also used as the filler for the outlet-side of the catalyst layer.
EFFECT: It has high strength and resistance to pulverization, and is inert to the product.
