CONSTITUTION: A thermopile 10 made of numerous thermocouples, whose temperature measuring contacts are appropriately arranged, is located inside a frame 11 in an inner cylinder 3. Another thermopile 13 made of numerous thermocoples 12 is placed between the inner cylinder 3 and an intermediate cylinder 2 so that the contacts of the thermocouples are distributed on the walls of both the cylinders. The thermoelectromotive force of the thermopile 13 is made proportional to the mean temperature difference between the walls of both the cylinders. The other thermopile 10 is coupled to a resistance thermometer to constitute a coupled thermometer that is a thermoelectric thermometer in which the temperature of the coupled point is kept constant or a reference contact is accurately maintained at a constant temperature. The intermediate cylinder 2 is heated by an appropriate mehtod. The heating is controlled to eliminate the thermoeletromotive force of the thermopile 13 to equalize the temperature of the outside surface of the inner cylinder 3 to that of the inside surface of the intermediate cylinder 2. As a result, excellent heat insulation is attained and the temperature rise of water in the inner cylinder is accurately measured.
