CONSTITUTION: A pipe 3 having a small diameter is inserted into a casing 2 of a production well 1 until it reaches the bottom 4 of the well. The portion between the top end of the pipe 3 and the opening end of the casing 2 is closed by an annular plate 5, thus forming a cylindrical enclosed space 6. Here, the velocity of steam and hot water flowing upward in the pipe 3 is controlled by the diameter of pipe 3 (process A). Then, reflux flow of hot water is poured into the enclosed space 6 from a return pipe 18 (process C). As a process B in addition to the process A, a pipe 13 formed with many connecting holes 15 in its side wall is inserted into the casing 12 until it reaches the well bottom 14, with its cylindrical space 16 being opened to the atmosphere, and a reflux well 11 for carrying reflux flow of hot water back to the top of pipe 13 via a return pipe 18 is disposed on the upstream side of the production well 11. As to the welling characteristics of the well, in case that a two- phase flow of steam and hot water of a consistant dryness is produced from the well, only the process A is employed. On the other hand, in case that the dryness is increased and the content of steam is increased with increase of the flow rate, processes A, B, C are employed simultaneously. Further, in case that only steam is produced, processes B, C are employed.
