CONSTITUTION: An eccentric part 2a is formed on a piston pin 2, which is coupled rotatably with a connecting rod 3 and rotates within a piston 1. A No.1 shallow hole 4 is formed at the max. eccentricity point of this eccentric part while No.2 deep hole 5 formed on the opposite side. When the engine concerned is operated with a high compression ratio, low pressure oil is fed into a lock pin slide hole 13 from an oil pressure path 15, and No.1, No.2 lock pin 14, 12 are detained with the No.2 hole 5. When the engine 1 is operated with a low compression ratio, on the other hand, high pressure oil is fed to the slide hole 13, and the No.2 and No.1 lock pins 12, 14 are detained with the No.2 hole 5 and No.1 hole 4, respectively, and the piston 1 is sunk in an amount corresponding to the eccentricity H. Thereby a small-sized mechanism with quick response is accomplished.
