IN A PROCESS FOR REMOVING AN ACIDIC GAS OF THE GROUP OF CARBOM DIOXIDE AND HYDROGEN SULPHIDE FROM A GASEOUS MIXTURE BY ABSORBING THE ACIDIC GAS BY MEANS OF AN AQUEOUS ABSORBING SOLUTION IN AN ABSORPTION STAGE, TRANSFERRING THE FOULED SOLUTION TO A REGENERATION STAGE IN WHICH THE ABSORBED ACIDIC GAS IS REMOVED FROM THE SOLUTION, AND RECIRCULATING THE REGENERATED SOLUTION TO THE ABSORPTION STAGE, THE IMPROVEMENT COMPRISING REGENERATING THE SOLUTION IN THE REGENERATION STAGE BY BURNING A COMBUSTIBLE SUBSTANCE IN DIRECT CONTACT WITH THE SOLUTION OR WATER THEREBY TO OBTAIN A MIXTURE OF COMBUSTION GASES AND WATER VAPOR, AND INTIMATELY CONTACTING THE LATTER MIXTURE WITH THE SOLUTION TO BE REGENERATED THEREBY TO REMOVE THEREFROM THE ABSORBED ACIDIC GAS.
2. The process of claim 1, wherein the combustible substance is burnt with the use of a gas containing molecular oxygen in a proportion less than 21 percent.
3. The process of claim 1, wherein the combustible substance is burnt with the use of a gas containing molecular oxygen in a proportion stoichiometrically required for the combustion.
4. The process of claim 1, wherein the combustible substance is burnt with the use of a gas containing molecular oxygen and water vapour.
5. The process of claim 1, wherein the fouled solution is first partly regenerated by desorption with water vapour and the remaining amount absorbed acidic gas is removed in the manner defined by claim 1.
