CONSTITUTION: A lightning impulse voltage generator 18 is composed of a DC high voltage charging main capacitor 10, a series circuit 11 of an internal braking resistor 12 connected across the capacitor, a discharge gap 13 and a discharge resistor 14, and a series circuit 15 of a peak regulating resistor 16 and a capacitor 17. An upper bulb 19 connected to one end of the capacitor 17 of the output terminal, a lower bulb 20 with a peak cutting starting gap 21, and an intermediate bulb 23 are provided, upper and lower gaps 24∼25 are formed between the bulbs 19 and 20, and the bulb 23 is connected to the intermediate tap 26 of the resistor 14. Thus, a lightning impulse voltage of a lightning impulse voltage generator 18 is applied to the bulb 19, a tap divided voltage is applied to the bulb 23, the bulbs are discharged thereamong to cut the peak of the lightning impulse voltage.
