In an electric cell comprising in combination a metallic anode, a cathode composition comprising a mixture of carbon and an organic compound, the improvement in which the organic compound is a charge transfer complex, which complex is the reaction product of a polynuclear aromatic compound having at least two fused rings as the donor and iodine as acceptor, and wherein the polynuclear aromatic compound of said complex is phenothiazine.

A cathode composition especially adapted for use in a cell which comprises a mixture of carbon and a charge transfer complex having a specific resistivity of about 100 ohm-cm., which complex is the reaction product of a polynuclear aromatic compound having at least two fused rings as the donor and an acceptor selected from the group of iodine and bromine.
