CONSTITUTION: A raster is displayed on the whole face of a cathode-ray tube fitted to the holding mechanism of a cathode-ray tube picture quality automatic evaluating system, a corner section 1 is photographed (a) by a TV camera facing the correctly fitted cathode-ray tube, and the picture is binary-processed and stored (b), with the effective faceplate set to 1 and the outside of the faceplate set to 0. Two straight lines crossing at right angles at 20mm from the periphery of the effective faceplate photographed under the normal holding condition are stored (c), and the logical product (d) of these two picture signals is obtained. The end section of this right-angle intersection is the periphery of the effective faceplate, and an intersection 3 at 20mm from it becomes a reference point used to measure the raster distortion of the cathode-ray tube to be inspected. Accordingly, the measurement error caused by the difference between actual and virtual fitted states to the holding mechanism is electrically corrected in a short time to correctly evaluate the picture quality.
