CONSTITUTION: Two sets of electrodes of relatively small electrodes 115B and 116B and large electrodes 115A and 116A are provided to a bimorph plate 11 being an electrostrictive element to which a magnetic head is provided and which moves the magnetic head in the width direction of tracks. When alternating currents are applied to these electrodes 115B, 116B, the plate 11 vibrates at small amplitudes only at the portion sandwiched by the electrodes 115B, 116B and therefore its resonance frequency becomes large and increases the frequency of the alternating current, thus the plate may be vibrated at high periods. If the applied voltage to the electrodes 115A, 116A is controlled according to the comparison of the envelope signals in both positive and negative directions to be detected by the head vibrating according to these vibrations, the plate 11 curves largely, thus tracking of the head 4 is servo-controlled. Hence, tracking servo control may be accomplished with high response and in a high range by way of the head vibrating at high periods.
