The result of recognition is fed to a character style discriminating means 15, where whether the character is a hand-written letter of a print letter is discriminated. An identification means 5 identifies a key item of the document depending on the result of character string recognition whose letter style is discriminated and a corresponding area check means 6 checks the content of key item input according to the result.
