CONSTITUTION: A connection checking part 25 retrieves a word connection dictionary 50 with the part of speech of the front word for the contiguous head words of a word string within a paragraph in terms of word string candidates respectively. Then the part 25 performs the grammatical check based on a fact that the connection number of the back word is permitted and deletes the improper connection words out of a connection word string. Furthermore, the dictionary 50 is retrieved based on the front part of speech with the same part of speech secured between the front and back words. Then the dictionary 50 retrieved with the back part of speech even though the connection number of the back word is permitted for connection. While the grammatical connection is not permitted among words in case the connection is not permitted for the connection number of the front word. Thus the patterns of the improper connection words are deleted within a connection word string through such grammatical check. As a result, the capacity of the dictionary 50 is reduced and the word retrieving speed is also increased.
