CONSTITUTION: A carboxylic ester is treated with 0.1W10wt.% of an oxidizing agent, e.g. hydrogen peroxide or sodium hypochlorite, at 40W90°C for 30W60min. The ester is then treated with a 1W40wt.% aqueous alkali in an amount of 0.2W5 equivalents based on the free carboxylic acid at 40W90°C for 5W60min under stirring, and the formed soap and alkali salts of oxidation products are washed with warm water. The ester is then reacted with 0.001W5wt.% of a reducing agent, e.g. sodium borohydride or hypophosphorous acid, at 40W90°C for 10W60min, and the remaining water is eliminated by heating in vacuo.
EFFECT: Improved heat and storage stabilities without discolration even for a long time.
